Hey guys, I want to use one battery to crank up my mud motor and run my navigation and running lights. Whats my best bet? Deep cycle or crankin'? What brand have yall found to last? Thanks for the input.

Duckwhacker I've got two batterys in my boat, a lawn tractor battery to crank 6hp. mudmotor and a deep cycle in the front for lights and trolling motor in the off season. Both came from Wal-Mart and I've had good luck with both, and they were inexpensive. I've found no problems using a deep cycle to crank outboards in the past other than they cost a little more. I hope this info helps.

If you want to save some weight ... go with a "lawn & garden" battery for the mud motor. It has plenty of cranking amps and weighs less than a standard "car" battery. :)

With outboards, you're better off using a standard car battery. OB's require much more amps to crank over.

In my boat, 30 hp OB, I use a standard car battery to run the motor, nav. lights, etc. & have a Trojan deep cycle (group 30) to run the trolling motor. The Trojan is the BEST deep cycle battery that I've ever seen ... I've got 5 years on it and haven't killed it yet!! :D They ain't cheap ... but they last. :)
