The President has shown his strong support for the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) by requesting an increase in funding for the upcoming fiscal year. The Administration's FY 2006 budget request for the Department of Interior includes a $12.5 million increase for NAWCA. In the upcoming months, Members of the Interior Appropriations Subcommittees in the House and Senate will consider the proposed budget of $49.9 million for NAWCA and make their own recommendation for NAWCA funding within the FY 2006 Interior Appropriations funding bills.
Now is the time to contact your Representatives and Senators to let them know that you support increased funding for the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA).
There is a tangible way for House and Senate members to demonstrate their support. Congressmen John Dingell (MI) and Curt Weldon (PA) have again circulated a letter to their House colleagues asking them to join in signing a letter to the House Appropriators in favor of the highest funding level possible for NAWCA in FY 2006. Senators Mike Crapo (ID) and Blanche Lincoln (AR) are also circulating a sign-on letter in the Senate that will be sent to Senate Appropriators in favor of funding for NAWCA.
You can help get signatures on the House and Senate letters by contacting your Representatives and telling them that NAWCA is a cost-effective and proven conservation program that deserves their support.
