Membership in the EVERGLADES COORDINATING COUNCIL brings additional lobbying opportunities. The annual ALLIED SPORTSMEN'S ASSOCIATIONS OF FL. Fish, Fins and Fur Legisltive Event in Tallahassee gives members a low key chance to build relationships with state and some federal office holders. UW-F is fortunate to have a Regional Director in Tallahasse, Larry Helm, and he is planning to attend for us. The meeting is March 16. Larry (g8rvet) and the growing north central Fl. membership will enhance our influence as the trips I have had to make to Tall. can be reduced and more local contacts developed.
Thanks!!!! Newton

Although I have not met Larry in person I know he is a great guy..just for putting up with Rut and Fyre :)
Anyone who has read his posts on the old SDH and American waterfowlers knows he is serious in his dedication to conservation and waterfowling. We are lucky to have people of his caliber..or is that guage? :laughing6
Thanks for stepping up Larry. :icon_salu

Larry I'm glad you are supporting UW as a Regional Dir. and more importantly as a voice of Florida Waterfowlers in Tallahassee.

If you get a chance, test the new FWC Exec's and Commissioners with the possibility of a statewide white or snow goose season. The FWC members that were adamantly against it seem to all have moved on..... :) Diane seemed to not be against it. I saw a couple of geese near Merritt Island again this season.

Thanks to Larry Helm, Regional Director, for attending this event for UW-F. Although, as often happens, the attendance of legislators was not as expected due to competing functions, Larry was able to meet several members of other groups, FWC staff and our new EVERGLADES COORDINATION COUNCIL associates, including Barbara Jean Powell. Larry is a great asset for UW-F in the Tallahassee location. We plan to add "activities" in Tal. into a "report" for future Newsletters. Current work includes the hydrilla issue, work with Diane on the WMA regulations, seasons for pins and cans, and the FUTURE OF HUNTING IN FLORIDA seminar.

I am sure other UW-F members in the Tal. area want to work with Larry as well. There are local hunting issues that need to be addressed and a group effort can be efffective.
Thanks again.
