I just received notice of the meeting ...

Tuesday, March 15 @ 9:30 am. In the new conference room at Welaka State Forest.

One thing that I found interesting in the minutes of the last meeting (Sept. 21, 2004) is that there is a mention of "regional stormwater treatment facilities" in portions of St. Johns, Flagler & Putnam counties. "RST's" apparently are the equivalent of the STA's of south Florida ... the description reads "RST's are combined catchbasins and vegetative filtration systems".

Does anyone have more information on these RST's? Who went to the last northern region RAC meeting?

Kevin,

The reservior are ment to hold storm water in the Agri areas. Like around Hastings, Spuds, etc. Todd Stone told me about one.

I'm not sure who made the last meeting.

I hope someone from the area can attend.....I would suggest an effort should be made to have these meetings during hours the "working public" can attend. The South region meetings are at 6:30 pm. Also, if you can have me put on the email list for notifications, agendas, etc. I will be glad to help where I can from here. We are trying to get all the WMDs to put either David and/or me on their contact lists so we can at least keep the Calendar page up to date and alert members of important meetings. Our goal should be to have one of our members on the RAC. We are in the process now of putting together a position statement on the three marshes with fees "managed" for ducks by the SJRMWD.....all are not in the same WMD's region and some combo presentation will need to be made. Thanks for any help...Newton

Uh ... Welaka.

It's about 8 miles west of Crescent City ... right on the St. Johns River. :)

I can commit to attend and if anyone else wants to go let me know.

Also, would this be considered a "fact finding" trip or do I need to provide some kind of input.

Steve, thanks for trying to make the meeting, I think Phil is also hoping to be there....We need to attend all WMD RAC meetings across the state and work to get a position on the commitees. At first you can determine the scope of the work of the RAC and there is always a "public comment" period when our issues can be raised, even before we earn a spot on the commitee. A brief report on the meetings on our site are always helpful as David and I try to get some of the info in the Newsletter of activity across the state.

Please be sure to get on the "interested parties" list to receive all notices of future meetings and events...I would appreciate it if you would also have me listed....newtoncook@aol.com...... and we will put them on the CALENDAR. The person taking the notes of the meeting usually handles this.

The great successes we have had getting marshes opened for hunting and facilities provided for access in Central and South FL. have come due to our attending SFWMD recreation meetings and the South SJRWMD RAC meetings. As UW-F grows, we have more folks able to attend these meetings and we will become even more effective in every part of the state. Thanks again to all who make the sacrifice of time to represent UW-F members at these meetings.
