This morning we had to cut our hunt very short. As my wife and I were putting up the blind on our boat she was stung on her ring finger by a yellowjacket that had gotten rolled up in the blind. We were able to hunt till about 7:30 until the swelling got too bad. We pulled out and went to the fire station to have her rings cut off.
These events may not have occured or have been slowed if we had some Benadryl with us. As duck hunters we are always in places to get bitten or stung by something. A few pills dont take up much room in the blindbag and could save a hunt. :icon_salu

Thanks for sharing that - for some reason didn't consider bee stings as a good use for it until you mentioned it.

Actually, since last year I do carry Benadryl in my bag when hunting - it's good for all kinds of bites as well as poison ivy too. I suffered with poison ivy for about 2 weeks last year and never considered an anti-histamine until going to the doctor for it. Dryed it right up!

Care with bees is important - I used to be allergic to them, had to go to the emergency room once - took several years of shots to get over it! Both the throat and the heart sac will swell in reaction to them, especially if its a multiple sting. My whole body used to swell like a balloon when stung until I had the shots.

Last year during early teal after setting the spread parked the boat where we were gonna cover it up. The first palm frond I pulled had a wasp nest and they nailed me 4 times. One of the hits was on my ring finger and I pulled the ring off for the first time in ten years. Glad I pulled it cause it swelled up pretty good. Hope she is ok Wilbur.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. She is fine except for having her wedding rings cut. It would'nt have been a problem if she could have gotten them off, but they would'nt come off before she got stung. Not long after the rings were off the swelling started going down, and she started after me about going fishing this afternoon. It's great having a mate that likes all the good stuff! :toothy9:

Glad Momma's gonna be alright Wilbur. You never know when your gonna need a certain medication while your out in the marsh. I take meds for high blood pressure and diabetes and carry a few of each in my blind bag and my big game huntin' travel bags. Learned I needed to do that the hard way, 3 days without my HBP meds and I thought my skull was gonna split open :tard:

One thing that should always be in your boat, or blind bag if you're not in a boat, is a first aid kit. There are some great commercial setups you can buy at outdoors shops with things like Benedryl already in them. :smileinbo
