I took a friend of mine out to a local marsh this morning. He is a hunter, but has never hunted ducks. He is now another official duck hunting addict. :icon_thum
I took him to the secluded marsh I found the other day. The action wasn't as hot as I anticipated with the front coming through, but there were plenty enough ducks to keep us happy. We were covered up in teal early on, and had some fast "in your face" action. My friend's shooting skills were a tad rusty, but soon enough we got on 'em. We had a couple of pairs of mottleds circle us but wouldn't commit. The 2nd pair I called in when they were flying by, they turned, came right down the flyway, circled around, turned into the wind, but then flared off at the last moment. That was a bummer as we were hoping to end the hunt with those two boids. Nonetheless, we had a good hunt.
I got a limit of teal (5 blue and 1 green), and my first-timer friend got 5, all blue, but we only recovered 3 of his. And we now have a new duck hunter amongst our ranks. I'm very pleased with the way the morning turned out.
My friend has vowed to buy duck hunting stuff this summer, and get his own rig too. I'll be working him to join UWF. :icon_salu
My friend couldn't tell a duck from a heron. He kept saying, "Jim!! Ducks!!"
And I'd say, "No, don't shoot! They're egrets!!" :laughing4
"No, don't shoot! They're ibises!!" :laughing4
"No, don't shoot! They're herons!" :laughing4
I can only imagine what his bag would have looked like had he been hunting by himself today. :confused2
Here's a pic of the boids. Sorry, Hitch I ain't........but I tried. :hiding:
