Too many hulls are being left and the manager is objecting to hunters leaving the palm fronds out in the water....they need to be removed after hunting and returned to the bank or carried out.....also, the garbage builds up around the barrel.....however, people have been cleaning this up regularly and taking it away.....but still there are periods of time when the garbage overflows.
These are legitimate concerns....but not major ones as we can improve the situtations....hopefully the recent letter will have some effect on hunters these last weekends. Next year we will put a letter out in advance of the season to permit holders addressing the issues and should have good compliance.
I have informed Jerry Krenz that the UW-F and DELTA youth hunt participants intend to do a general "clean up" as they leave the STAs on the youth hunting days. This will be passed on to the STA managers.

Is this person really concerned about the STA or just trying to make a case against hunters to keep them from killing birds?

I am a little perplexed and somewhat annoyed...I was there sunday afternoon and placed several new black trash bags in the bottom of the can to be used when the clear one that was in place was full....Billy watched my son Joey put them in there. The bag that was in place had very little in it due to someone( a UW-F member I think) had hauled the morning trash out. The area around the can had NO trash around it...I looked!! ...Now, I wasn't the last man out( I left the check station at 6:40 PM) but find it hard to believe that there was overflowing trash from the few hunters that were not already checked out.
I am not pointing fingers nor saying that it is impossible....I'm saying HIGHLY IMPROBABLE!!!
I personally cleaned up the trash near the can the sunday of 1/2/05 afternoon and UW-F member John Monti hauled it away..... So what do we need to do here?? Take pictures with time/date stamps to PROVE that the area IS being policed?

I believe the photos were made during the week and do not reflect the clean up done on the weekend. Probably bad timing....Hopefully she noticed the clean up when they went back to work at the STA yesterday. Main point is that the last hunt day and the youth hunt days, it is important to clean up!

Not buying it Newton.... I spoke with Jen while cleaning and sacking up the trash on 1/2/05(afternoon) She seemed receptive to what I was doing and appreciative of the effort. The fact is that John Monti hauled three of those large yellow trash bags out when we left. :) ...that was on the evening of the 2nd
We were there on the afternoon of sunday the 9th...NO BIG MESS.....Morning trash was hauled and area was clean. I was there and will be glad to (nicely) speak face to face with whoever says otherwise.... I just don't get this..I spoke with Billy this sunday and we discussed the trash situation...HE was the one who said that there was little trash to haul for the afternoon hunt....???????

I assume we are talking about the UW-F trash can at the parking area inside STA 1-W? I hunted Sunday morning (1/09/05) and while loading up our gear after the hunt I noticed (and picked up and tossed in the can) some trash scattered around the area -- what looked like the remnants of a plastic bag that had been on the ground for a while, a pair of socks that looked like they'd been there from the previous weekend (each sock was bunched up, like it had been taken off wet and simply left there, less than 10 feet from the can) and some other junk. This was at 10:30 a.m. and the can had just a few things in it, not even 1/8th full. Lt. Reed and some officers came over to chat with us and one of them picked up an unfired 20-gauge shell and one picked up a 12-gauge shell. So if this district person is nitpicking, she has enough ammunition (pun intended) to complain about.
