I want to take a moment and thank all the whiners out there, you know who you are. You're the ones who threw a fit at STA 1 week ago Sunday. You are the guys that tried to cut the line, tried to sneak in without a permit, left your mess in the middle of the hydrilla for the rest of us to pick up.

You are the guys that get on location at 5 am for standby and then complain that you cannot get right in. You complain to the hunt managers that other, more dedicated 'fowlers are there as much as a day ahead of you, (after all, they are willing to camp-out but you want to sleep-in) then sneak in when they change shifts. You prefer the footrace for standbys at Goodwin to the dedication it takes to get there early at the STAs. You complain when a good-hearted permitee takes pity on a standby hunter and offers to hunt with with a total stranger, make a new friend, allowing everyone else to move up a notch as well.

Unfair you cry, lazy hunters want to shoot ducks too! If you can't, no one else will, right?

When you get the answer you know you are gonna get from the hunt managers, you shop your complaint to any (and all) official(s) that will listen until you get the response you are looking for - and screw things up for everyone, put the hunt managers in uncomfortable situations with their supervisors for trying to be fair to everyone, thereby shortening the line with consolidation, not to mention the damage you do to every hunters' reputation.

The line would have been shorter for you, too, you dope.

Finally, after you have done your damage, you throw a tantrum, stomp off the premises and leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Enforcement says to itself ' what a bunch of jerks these guys are! Let's check 'em all out every time!'

All you had to do was be nice, get on the list and let Billy do his job. You'd have hunted at daybreak that way. Do you have any idea how precarious and precious these STA hunts are? Do you think the authorities want your pain in the a** attitude (not to mention your sh**paper) out there? It's gotta' be neat n'easy for them, or you'll be back to wherever you were last year, in a heartbeat, wishing the ducks were there again.

Well, the whiners, as usual, can claim their tainted success. Whereas the gatekeeper has been very good at keeping the standbys down to a manageable level (previously EVERYONE has been able to hunt), the party's over. Lone permitees can no longer take a standby in with them. No more slack, your buddys can stay home (only two per permit, remember?) or stand at the end of the line after you.

Fact is, now, if you don't pull an two-niter, or have a permit, don't bother going. And you have yourself (and the newspapers) to thank, because the line just got a lot longer .... THREE times as long!!! Many of us regulars are planning to be there Thursday for the upcoming hunts, are you?

Sixty (60) standbys at 5 last weekend. Yes, a significant number of them were sent packing, each and every walk-on that managed to get in had the sun in their eyes while setting up.

Expect the wardens to count the empties in your boat when you leave, you deserve a ticket for littering if you leave it to others to haul them out for you. And you better have your STA tag, licenses, stamps, permits, plugs and ducks handy when you check out! They're gonna wanna see 'em, and give your truck a thorough search to boot. They WANT to run you off!

In fact, don't bother unless you have a permit, are willing to play by the book and care to get there a couple days early. You won't get in. :tongue2:

Don, I hear what you are saying but you are probably preaching to the Choir... The "bad seed" will not be on this site and even if they were will not care about cleaning up etc. They will get a citation from FFWC and go back to the places that there is no"john law" to watch their antics.
Sorry to hear that somebody had to go "crap in the mess kit" and screw over a good thing...it's the nature of anything that easy...thats why I am glad that I hunt some places that are off the beaten track..the solitude is refreshing!
