Division of Forestry (DOF) will be having a meeting on the initial 10 year management plan for Four Creeks State Forest/WMA. This area is located just north of Jacksonville.
This is your opportunity to have input on how this State Forest/WMA will be managed. You can rest assured that the hikers and horseback riders will have their people attending this meeting.
I'm a member of the Advisory Group, so if you care about hunting and fishing on Four Creeks then I hope you would attend so DOF can see the strong support for hunting on this area by the local public. Without strong support by local hunters, Four Creeks will just become another place for all the tree huggers.
If you do attend or write a comment to DOF please suggest a need for Check stations. DOF has already decided that Four Creeks will be a quality deer hunt area by imposing a 3pt rule and very low quota numbers, but they have not budgeted any funds for a deer management program or set any kind of mesureable goals.
As the name implies there are four creeks on this area that could make for some Woodduck hunting with proper management. Hope some of you duck hunters in the area will attend.
