The posts regarding STA hunting may well be in the past if those hunting them do not police themselves better. I know I am preaching to the choir here as UW-F members and friends would never intentially jeapordize years of hard work to get hunting approved on the STAs.

One of the biologists made several pictures of litter at STA 1w, including a spot where some idiot crapped and left toilet paper and all right out in the open. Most of the pictures were of items lost in the dark, a pair of socks, T shirt and a clothes hanger.....some were of litter....candy wrappers. She was not very complimentary and wanted to know when the mess would be cleaned up.

There are very serious people in the SFWMD who do not like hunting.....why these XXXXXXXX's give them ammunition I can not fathom.

I promised B. J. Kattel, the recreation liason with the SFWMD, that we would do a clean up. I am asking that anyone hunting the STAs this weekend carry a plastic bag and police the check in area and the parking areas, especially at STA 1W. We probably should make this a regular duty for all members when they are on the STAs.

Meanwhile, we need to set dates for a specific cleanup at both STAs......a hunting day is preferred as the gates are open and we could also go on standby and hunt if you do not have a permit. Please suggest a weekend.....NEXT WEEKEND? Those of you who live down south in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale should be responsible for STA 5.....those of us here in the north....STA 1W.

B. J. ( and the biologist) are expecting action.

AND IMPORTANT....if you see some XXXXXXXX making a mess give them the riot act. There is no excuse after we have been warning everyone from day one of the sensitivity of the issue.

Newton,

It's good to have concern. As mentioned on another site, trash cans w/ UW's logo would be a plus as well as a scheduled cleanup.

It will go along way to have the WMD see that UW is as serious. In the past, UW cleanups and collective (w/ DU and Delta) group efforts were recieved well by the FWC and Federals at MI.

I would say put out a flyer, but that might be more trash. DuckmanJR had it best. Word of Mouth.
