Thanks to all who turned out.....we needed the numbers during the public meeting when the "non consumptive" groups filled the room......fortunately we had the seats at the table with the mikes!!!!! All except for the roaming mike and the lady who got to the table and commenced to complain about having to listen to shots fired on Sunday morning and her fear of bullets flying through her windows.....all this from STA 1 E where there is no hunting! No hunting is what she and the homeowners group wanted...all horse riders......and of course she had no idea that shotguns could not reach her house from the legal distance required by law to discharge a firearm.
DELTA. UW-F and Bryon and Dennis all were on hand to defend hunting. Also a fellow who was a DU member and worked for the contractors on the STAs.
The most disturbing situation was the inclusion of "boats" as being a test on the STAs. This little hot spot just will not go away....the STA managers are still wary of any disturbance. We will have to work on this issue.
Also, we could get no relief on the parking situation at STA1W. The "engineers" are insisting the balance of the levee is "unsafe".
But there is a definite mood of cooperation where possible from the SFWMD staff.......there just remains some elements in the
STA managers, scientists and engineers who are stirring the pot.
I cannot emphasize enough that all hunting on STAs is subject to end if any measure of phosporous increase occurs during the hunting period. Please conduct yourself accordingly.
