Sta1 and 5 scouting report

Went on 11/13 and checked both sta's. Sta5 had a lot of ducks. I saw 5 different species, easy access and good hunting all the way around.

Sta1 on the other hand had penty of ducks but you have to walk or travel 2.5 to 3 miles from where they are making us park. They suggest not to bring a dog. The only other time I have seen that many gators was on a gator farm.

Good luck I will be at sta1 afternoon on the 21st.

Here is a pic from about 1 mile south of parking area still about a 1 or so to hunting area. I am standing on the berm.

Thanks for the pic. Looks like it will be a long paddle to the marsh end. Sure hope that the winds are not blowing that water too rough.

We addressed the parking issue at the STA meeting tonite at the SFWMD office......the engineers insist the road is dangerous and parking must be at the central graded area. This means a long walk, row etc. for all STA 1W hunters......
The repair time is not known yet, but it "should be ok before next year".....meaning next season.

We are reluctant to raise too much **** on the issue as they could have simply cancelled all hunting.....there remains some staff against hunting on the STAs. We will continue to work on the issue.

I talk to them also today before the meeting since I work nights and could not make the meeting. They told me that this would not have been a problem except for the hurricane damaged the levy and the hydrilla. They also suggested that we talk with FWC to see if they would change the times for arrival and departure times to allow for the long hikes and rowing. I also told them how much we appreciated them opening the STA's to us and hope that this partnership works out well for the both of us.
