SFWMD WRAC Lake O meeting today had no suprises...Lake is at about 10.5 and rising slowly. Vegetation improving, but lots of new emerging vegetation is the unwanted torpedo grass, water lettuce, etc. and it continues to need early treatments. Fire has done a lot of good. Scraprd areas all revegetating....on the side Don Fox, FWC Biologist responsible for the lake, says lots of ducks already in the scraped areas....

Work on the large "blocker" below the Kiss. River structure approaches completion....this is still considered emergency work to keep the structure safe.

Kiss. Chain of lakes at "schedule" or slightly above and some water is flowing into the lake via bypasses around the structure with the construction. Most of the water coming into the lake is from rainfall north of the lake and some on the lake itself at 1.2 times normal during July.

WCAs are above schedule with the S 12 now open allowing more flow south. STAs are all hydrated and considered in good shape.

Some bureaucratic gibberish....with the probable purchase of the US Sugar land all Everglades restoration projects are in a flux, especially the Reservoirs and STAs planned north, east and west of the lake, plus the EAA Reservoir to the south. The highly touted ACELER8 projects are now referred to as EXPEDITED PROJECTS and STAs in the Northern Everglades as WATER QUALITY ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS...

The lake has a 90% chance of being over 11 feet before season, and still about 70% to be above 12 feet. Keep the rain coming!

This storm could be just what "the doctor ordered" for Lake O....a good rain event in Central Florida could take the lake close to 13 feet.....and with the sytstem "full" keep the slow rise going for the rest of the wet season.

Glad the District did the work on the Kiss. River structure into the lake on an emergency basis.....a rapid movement of water toward the lake could have created a very dangerous situation at the weakened structure.
