Well, score one for the good guys. After several meetings and much back and forth tonight we learned that SJRWMD lawyers could not find a way to make de-annexation automatic so the governing board has placed the whole deal on hold. We were assured that no action would be taken without first bringing it back to the RAC.
That's the good news, now the bad. Plam Bay plans to annex south now rather than west. Lookout wetlands clear down to the county line... At least it is private property that had no public access. Annexation of public land must not be allowed to become a common practice.

Thanks to all the UW-F members who came out in large numbers to the meetings and spoke in opposition to the annexation of the marshes.....The question UW-F asked.....If a future city government bans hunting?....."Who petitions and who votes on de-annexation?" stopped the deal cold when the attorneys came back with the fact that current Florida law says both the SJRWMD( the petitioner) AND the CITY OF PALM BAY had to vote in favor of de-annexation.
Obviously, if the city changed the law and banned hunting, they would have the power to not agree to the petition.....

First, I want to thank Newton and David for taking the time out of their hectic schedules to come up here(several times) to support us locals with a vested interest in this long drawn out battle. Many members have made it to these meetings and OUR VOICE was loud and clear! We must remain vigilant since even though " the fat lady is clearing her throat" as is said..."It ain't over till its over" but We can put this one in the "win" category for now.
Also, thanks to Aaron for voicing Deltas concerns and to CJ for some very valuable "intel" ;)
Again, thanks guys.:)

Good Job!! Thank-you to all who gave up time to be at the meetings in order to get the appropriate questions on the table. There was definately a strong voice from all user groups. The work is not done yet, however, and we need to remain diligent to avoid any other potential threats to the Upper St. John's.
