This " restoration plan"
is to restore the Everglades to how it once was. A river of grass dotted with tree islands and wildlife.
If we ever get the water levels figured out canals or no canals you will not be able to navigate a jon boat or bass boat outside of the canal many months out of the year.

when hunting the glades how many wading birds do you see a day? besides the 2 or 3 that are standing on the side of a canal?

how many deer do you have walk through your decoys?

Is it not funny that we harvest more ringers than any other duck.
Most years we have the weather to hold teal for long period of time but the water is simply too deep.

At times I have hunted Holiday Park for 2 or 3 straight days with out seeing a Mottled.

HMMMM

The proposals we have made should improve the current situation by stopping canal flow, redirecting sheet flow as demanded by legislation into the slough....reducing build up(and depth) of water in areas 2 and 3 against the current canal banks and the Tamiami Trail. Remnants of the canal walls, many with trees and being used for rookeries now would act as the long gone islands (until the many years to form natural islands have past) acting as a place of refuge for animals during high water, plus adding diversity of depth, from zero to swamp average depth. The canal remnants would be long deep sloughs, good for fishing, transport and a place of refuge for fish during dry years. There would be a loss of ringer territory during normal and dry years, there would be a gain in teal and puddler territory. There is going to be change....but change does not have to be bad and may in fact add to the hunting opportunitues.
