Due to the recent onslaught of hurricanes, Mosquito Lagoon Outfitters was forced to cancel & reschedule the "Hunt for the Reds" which usually occurred on the first weekend of October.
The new date for the tournament is the weekend of November 20th, 2004.
Unknown to JR @ the time, this is also the Federally mandated opening date for the 2004/2005 waterfowl season.
When I realized the conflict, I immediately called JR & advised him of the overlap.
I advised JR that Ducks Unlimited will attempt to contact its (14,000) fourteen thousand plus members in the State of Florida via e-mail.
Obviously no-one wants the tournament rescheduled again & the federal dates for waterfowl season cannot be changed.
What we are asking for is "tolerance" as over (2000) two-thousand hunters & fishermen share the resource on this weekend.
JR stated that he will be making several announcements @ Friday's captain's meeting.
I spoke with Dorn Whitmore of MINWR & requested that some type of flyer also be placed @ the kiosks letting hunters know of the overlap.
The last thing anyone wants is an incident between the user groups that weekend (even though the hunters have guns & the fishermen have fillet knives ).
Bottom line, any confrontation between the user groups will do nothing but add fuel to the fire for the watchful eye of the "Bunny Huggers & Bird Watchers )
