Gary Goforth, Chief Consulting Engineer, presented the "SFWMD REVIEW OF STA RECREATION RECOMMENDATIONS" to the full SFWMD WATER RESOURCES ADVISORY COMMISSION. The program included an entire slide dedicated to UW-F recommendations:
1. Use a mail-in quota system.
2. Add an afternoon hunt.
3. Allow standby hunters.
4. Allows a scouting day prior to hunts.
VOLUNTEERED TO ORGANIZE CLEAN-UP TRIPS
The next slide:
SFWMD REVIEW OF RECOMMENTDATIONS
The recommended additional activities:
Should not impact the water quality performance of the STAs.
Need to be coordinated with constuction (construction takes precedent)
$5000 additional levee maintenance cost. (one way traffic)
Should not impact human resouces
HUNTS ADMINISTRATED BY FFWCC
Implementing revision to quota system and allowance of stand-by.
STAFF RECOMMEND APPROVAL

Those last three words are all important!
My presentation on the UW-F positions (thanks for what we have gained....now here is what we are working to) was well received. We have support of Mike Collins and Henry Dean on most issues. Rob Barton, the Recreation Chairman, keeps our issues on the table at each meeting. There were the usual "but we can't hike when hunters are there" type opponents but most members recognize 11 days a year for hunting are reasonable....and we will get more I believe as time goes by.
Obviously there are more details....give me a call if interested.
