It was a pleasurable couple of days as usual. Attendance was down....I am amazed how UW-F's major events will outdraw the DU state convention! Many, if not most of the DU state officers are also UW-F members and each year the cooperation improves.
The reason DU exists is to raise money "for the ducks" and Florida sends just over $1 million dollars a year to DU. Income was slightly down last year and is expected to be down this year due to the Florida economics.
UW-F donated $1000 to the cause and it was very much appreciated!
The state "Wingbeats" publication is having problems...cost and distribution...plus getting Florida topic copy (how we know about that with our Newsletter!). I volunteered to write at least two columns for the issues each year.
One good note....John Pope, DU VP from Jacksonville is in line to be the DU President next year. This is a prestigious and highly honored position....volunteer all the way and probably costing the individual over a hundred thousand dollars for the year to "serve".
John is dedicated to DU as you would imagine and is beginning to see the good things UW-F does in Florida. It will be good to have him as a friend.
Most of these meetings are devoted to training and improving fund raising skills and chapter development with presentations by DU staff from Memphis.
