Randy,
How knows? I saw a dozen teal hanging w/ some local mallards that live in our salt marsh. This was the day that Frances was about to hit. I would think the mallards stayed but the teal probably split. Who knows, I'll have to go see if they are there.
I do think that the Teal take advantage of the Hurricane's north winds to get futher south. Usually, the cool fronts start pushing right when the hurricanes are cranking.

I would venture to guess that they stay locked down like all the other birds and ride the storm out. They will however, start relocating to better areas, habitat wise, after the storm begins to clear. One of the main problems we are going to see this year is lack of suitable habitat - most of the areas are under water and may stay that way through the season.
Time to scout new areas....
Any news on MI anyone?

Don is right. They hunker down, and try to stay protected. After that, they look for good habitat. I have already seen mottleds, egrets, ibises, herons, cranes and other marsh birds since the storm.

Hey Rut - those birds in your back yard? Don't know exactly how close you are to the river, but it looks pretty bad in that area. Might want to keep that boat somewhere handy next week.

Don, I'm doing fine out at my place, we're high and dry. There is a lot of flooded areas in Geneva though, and the St. Johns is one giant lake. :(

My parents live on the Chain of Lakes in Winter Haven. They said they had ducks sitting on the water facing into the wind through Frances. They couldn't see the lake during Charlie.

We evacuated to the west coast for Jeanne,
but saw Melbourne's own Intracoastal Marina
take its pounding on TV. At the bottom of one
of the docks were three mottleds, facing the
wind and floating fairly unworried.
