Went to Wally world and Lowes tonight.

Lowes was sold out of their cheapest chainsaws, generators and their plywood was going fast.

I bought the next better saw and a BBQue grill.

Then on to Wally world,(where the westsiders aint skeered!) Got some propane lanterens, couple of 5 day coolers, some beans, more propane, H2O, nutter-butters, some rice and gritz, etc.

Gonna get 25 gallons of gas for the work generator and charge up my VHF hand held.

Locker down!

We're OK :D

I came into work today and there is power and DSL service here. Power and phones are still out at the house in Port St. Lucie. Newton's power and phones are out also. He and family are doing OK as well.

I've got my generator going and we've run cords to 6 neighbors to keep a frig, lamp, and small fan on in each. We've also rigged up a hose from hose bib to hose bib so everyone has water. That little 5000W Generac has been groaning but she's paid for herself 10 times over.

We've lost a portion of our roof but interior damage was minimal. The shingle damage is mostly missing tabs. Maybe 25%. Some windows cracked on the lee side of the house from pressure buildup within the house. So much for the news guy saying it was a wife's tale to slightly open a window on the down wind side. We lost some trees and debris is everywhere. Neighbor across the street lost 75% of roofing and has extensive drywall, furniture and carpet damage, as well as colapse of ceiling on their new car in garage.

We had the eye over us for over 3 hours. It was a welcome break from hours of sustained hurricane force winds. The back side of the storm did as much damage as the front although the winds were much less. Everything that was leaning toward the south couldn't take the push back to the north.

Hope everyone else is OK as well. I'll post up some pics when I get a minute.

Ivan Stay Away!!

Converted whats up with the Police Chief in Port St Lucie. He was on national news saying they are "being ignored" and Port St Lucie isn't getting any help?

David...glad you're OK...I'm still on duty(since 8AM thursday) and am getting tired....18hr work days and the first couple of days were primitive camping but the station is now like the Ritz-Carlton with hot showers and full electic (love that A/C baby!!) We're eating/drinking well and I did get a chance to run home and check my houses..Mine is fine but my rental( inlaws) took some roof damage and the screens are out of the porch. But I am thankfull that it wasn't much more...:)

Glad to here all are well. We only lost part of 1 shingle and some tree's. Been without power since 5AM Friday. Haven't seen an FPL truck working anywhere near our neighborhood. Saw a crew reconnecting service to a furniture shop in West Melbourne and that didn't sit well with me. The good news is the wife is totally for a generator now. Sleeping in sweat is tuff but we will be fine.

Glad to hear you guys are all OK. I had a small water leak around one window, but no other damage. No power for 5 days now, Friday will be 6. But, I've got the big Mack Daddy Generac, 15KW, powering my whole house. I too sweltered for a week after Charley, so I upgraded my electric plant!!:D
I hope that Ivan goes west, we don't need another one. Hang tough brothers!!

15kW huh? Nice generator!

Also had a couple of small leaks, but nothing major. All the trees had been blown down and cleared of leaves by Charlie. If Ivan hits, the only worry I have is loss of electricity again....

lost power sun morning, just got it back yesterday (thurs). no damage, but lots of trees and branches down and an overall mess. inlaws are on their way up right now from port charlotte. they still dont have a roof from charley and ivan is headed that way.

oh and im definitely investing in a generator for next time!
