Hey guys, I thought I would pass along some of the words of wisdom I got from Newton during the past few shows. For those of you that don't know, Newton has been a sales rep for many years and has worked more trade shows than he could probably count.
You must stop the folks that are walking by. People will walk by the booth all day and only a handful will stop on thier own. If someone is looking toward the booth don't be shy. I usually start with "Are you a duck hunter" or "Do you hunt" Some will give you a dirty look like you had the gall to interupt thier day but most will strike up a conversation. When the raffle shotgun is on display it will attract more attention. Believe it or not, many people don't realize it is a gun up for raffle. You gotta say "We're giving that baby away" "Try a ticket ot two, you never know" etc.
We have plenty of newsletters but be a little close handed with them. Certainly give them to anyone that shows interest in UWF. Some people just go by all the booths a take whatever is laying there.
The shotgun should be prominently displayed laying on the hard case. The package makes it more desirable. I try to have a few decoys and some of our give aways laying there as well.
If you think you have someone almost hooked you need to lay on the pressure bit. "If you hunt ducks in florida you need to join UWF." We are fighting for your rights. Of all the people that take an application and say I'll sign up later, only a small precentage ever do. The time to get them is when they are in your face. Tout our accomplishments. If it is someone that hunted in another state but stopped after moving here point out that UWF members often invite new members on hunts. We also have get togethers during season such as the winter hunt at MINWR.
We got 16 new members in Dania, let's see if we can better that in Orlando.
