Thanks for the heads up.
We sent a copy of the newsletter to about 20 news outlets around the state. Looks like it is paying dividends.:D

David,
You are doing a great job as Secretary. The slick colorful newsletter was the best ever. And you are following through on many other items that weren't getting done, such as getting them to the media.
Keep up the good work!

Here's the article ...
Waterfowlers Comment on Merritt Island Plan
Better habitat management could bring more ducks, simplify access issues, group says.
United Waterfowlers of Florida (www.unitedwaterfowlersfl.org) has released a position statement urging Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge officials to plan for more appropriate habitat management for migratory ducks. Controlled burns, spring draw-downs and other techniques could be used to make impoundments in this popular East Central Florida area more attractive to waterfowl, the group said.
A side benefit, UWF says, is that the current system of limited, fee permits would no longer be needed, as birds would spread out in the refuge, reducing problems of hunter crowding. Hunters actually pay for Merritt Island and other refuges through the annual Federal Duck Stamp, regardless of whether they visit the refuge.
UWF also advocates hunter check stations in the refuge, which could be used to accurately track the numbers, sex and species of waterfowl taken, as well as the refuge use patterns on hunters.
“Waterfowling is a positive activity that brings families and friends together, it teaches responsibility with firearms, promotes conservation and wildlife appreciation and benefits all forms of wildlife,” UWF noted.
Officials and representatives from the public are currently studying an updated general management plan to guide the Merritt Island Refuge for the next 15 years. Included are measures to encourage better boating practices in shallow water.

I picked up a copy of the August issue and found a UW member pictured on page 142 for catching a sailfish from a jonboat.

All the players on that year's team (2002), deserve a pat on the back.
Thanks Dave for getting that letter out.
It seems that it has effected some of the efforts at the refuge.
Good going to all!
I saw that same picture. Who was that guy? Lucky!
Instead of the "mouse that roared," how 'bout the duck that quacked?

Duke,
I don't think Diane Eggeman is going to like being called a guy.
Maybe the picture was on page 146 instead of 142?

Only lost four mature trees. A couple of new ones. But a lot of the current crop is on the ground. Not much income anyway.
The big cedars along the fence row got halved. There was minor patio screen damage and the top of the chimney blew off.
But I lost the freezer of venison and ducks. About thirty pounds.......... Thank goodness season is close.
Got power yesterday. Neighbors still don't have power. I ran power underground from the pole when we built the house. Also installed a gravity feed septic tank.
We made out pretty well.

Larry,
Glad you and your family are fine.
Not as bad as Andrew, but bad enough.
