How bout a 14?
Well, I don't know. The 9hp according to web site is a sub surface drive where the 14 is a surface drive. You tell me???? i really don't know..of course there is only one choice in 10 hp and below in this type of motor (so really no need to comparsion shop!! :tongue1:) . I'm gonna get one this year. i just would like to actually see one..instead of unpacking mine and saying "OH this is what it looks like".
Are the 14 and the 9 identical other than hp? How can 14 be surface and 9 be subsurface? if there is little to no difference I guess that the 14 is ok.
whistlingwings
01-10-2008, 08:36 PM
I'm guessing your needing a 10 hp or less for those Panhandle areas with HP limitations.
The subsurface and surface reference is stating that the 9 has a somewhat longer shaft and the prop does ride subsurface as a longtail does but yet outperforms a longtail in the speed and handling department. The 14 has the sport style shaft which rides as all the other hypers do.
We have a 14 mini in stock now.

Joe I want one of these for my 6.5 longtail and a custom prop we could break the 20 mph barrier.http://www.briggsracing.com/display/router.asp?docid=101379

We put one (Raptor) on a ultralight, played **** getting a yoke to fit the tapered crankshaft. had to do some machining to mock one up. Would've worked great if a prop was available that wouldnt blow out.

I have an update for the show. We are going to do a poker style run and we will have the raffle after the mud run at Ed Stone park. Mud Buddy has donated specific items tobe given away that I am keeping a mystery but it is some GOOOOODDDDD STUUFFFFFF I confirmed everything with the big guy today and he is donating several items. HMMMM What kind of good MB garb can we get......we will seeeeeeee May be a set of duals, splash saver accessories, big blade props, motor covers, who knows, come on out and see. There will be performance accesories for small block vans unveiled and some available also.
There is also going to be food sold as well. One hint that I have is donated a dozen decoys, and I have two vacation trips donated as well. I wanted to remind everyone that this is also a fund raiser for the family of the gentleman that died in Excel's boat plant during the tornadoes. All of the money raised will be for the Wife and two children that survive him.
Carb Clinic spaces for Mikuni Carbs is full, sorry.

That boat is the loudest mudmotor ever, and sucks for scouting, but that isn't what's holding me back. The motor is not charging the battery. We had just changed out the ignition switch, and the new one didn't have a connection for "R", which I now assume is regulator. Either that or the voltage regulator is fried for the second time. Just need to put the old switch back in (turned out that the switch wasn't the problem for another issue) and see if it charges. If not, it looks like a costly repair. Should still be able to run though, just have to bring a few extra batteries.

John the engine should run all day long without killing the battery, unless you start it numerous times. The stator is what creates the current to charge the battery. Actually it creates an AC voltage that is rectified to DC and regulated @14.2 volts thats where the regulator comes in.
Using a DVM disconnect the stator from the regulator and check for AC voltage with engine running, should see @ 34 volts. That way you can determine whether you have a bad stator or regulator.

Thanks Winston. If installing the old ignition switch doesn't bring the DC back up to 14-15v, I'll try that.

Mercury Reps to Attend Florida MB Roundup
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Its no secret, Mercury makes the best mud motor props and they are committed to make them better.
Mercury Marine has Mud Buddy motors at Lake X in Florida testing new blades for the stock 35, mini 23 and peformance motors over 45 horse.
They have some exciting new blades for us in the future including a new 3 blade speed prop. The speed increase is great, but I still want some modifications to the blade before we release it. I have been keeping this a secret, but many will see the prototype next week.
We received the initial test reports Monday. I am impressed. And, best yet, we will be honored to have two members of the Mercury corporate propeller division join us at the Florida Roundup to introduce and run the blades with us. We will run tests on the blades Friday and select boats to run them for the Saturday main event.
From the report, they have some blades that are faster, some that have better hole shots, and some that have a little of each. I ran some of these blades at Mercury last fall and they tell me they are even better now.
This is exciting news. The Merc reps are attending the event to see how they perform in day to day operation and of course to meet our customers and see how our boats are used. They are in for a treat and they know it.

Well, no S FL mudqueens this time guys, I'm out :( . Turns out that the deadline to submit my thesis has been moved up a week, so the mudfest weekend is CRUNCH TIME. I have to get it turned in early that next week, or it'll cost me a $1000 and one heck of a headache. So have a :occasion14 for me, and I hope it happens again soon so I can make it.
