Went out this morning. Up L67 from the trail. Got waved off from the spot I scouted and had on my GPS.NO problem, went to my next spot. That was almost out of Call range.
"News flash" Ringers don't like Mallard calls ALL MORNING. I could understand calling if you see a MD they come in. BUT DON"T CALL NON STOP AT EVERYTHING THAT FLIES! DO YOU KNOW WHAT SKY BLASTING IS! :icon_redf50 -100 yards is tooo far. save the ammo. DO these two traites go side by side.
Please learn from your mistakes and we can all get along in the marsh.:angry2:
I think I'll keep hunting alone up North.

calls don't work in S Fl period........they may turn a single mallard or direct him a bit into your spread, but most of the time if they want to come in they will.

Had the same thing at puzzle lake yesterday...the only other group on the entire lake set up about 200 yards away, which was fine and plenty far enough away, but then all 3 of them proceeded to wail on mallard calls at every duck they saw, until it was out of site. We never stood a chance but still managed to kill a few.

You can call but just use diffrent sounds. i use the feeding call for ringers and it seems to work. I have had some ringers who are flying away and i do a few feeding calls and bam they do a U-turn. I also believe that you can call for mottled ducks. Last week i had like 8 mottled's land in the deeks but i had already limited, so i just watched and the mottled duck called in 2 more with a come here call. It works, just have to improvise.

BUT DON"T CALL NON STOP AT EVERYTHING THAT FLIES!
You are wrong on this one. They are not quacking at everything that flies, they quack even when nothing is flying. That way when the birds lift up, they'll know where to go :icon_conf

If there is one thing I miss living in Florida (well two, as there are no geese in S. FL) is high ball calling at "specks in the sky" mallards and (sometimes) with a full series of calls bringing them in to the dekes....That is why I am leaving Sat. for a week in W. Tenn. and East Ark......My cousins forgive my rusty calling and let me "have at them"!
Here in Florida all the teal and wood duck whistles work well and the same whistles will do a job on the fulvous. Blue wing teal will also sometimes respond to what I call the "moaning" teal calls that are available...Ringers like a high pitich "burrrrrrr...." you can do with either a standard mallard call or the "moaning" teal calls, plus a sharp "quack". Mottles, are bascially mallards, and like the feed call, sharp quack and a subdued hen "here I am call"...the classic "yanknknknknk, yank, yank.
Florida newbies invariably start off still blasting the mallard high ball to the skies......Except in the very north of the state, most of them learn by embarrassment it is futile.

Mike just got both of us a Christmas present: Faulk's diving duck calls. After talking to Mr Faulk, and hearing him blow the call into the phone, he ordered two. When blown right, these calls sound an awful lot like a ringer purr.

You can give a Burr Burr on a Ringer and get them to look about 10-20% of the time. still better odds than not blowin anything. just stop blowin when you notice they have locked on to the dekes. you can't finish them like puddle ducks. BBW & Fulvous respond tp the 6n1 whistle, it does work.
i almost exclusevily call in all my mottle ducks i shoot. i will highball them to get their ATTENTION then continue to quack & Dweeb until they get visually lock on my 1 or 2 Mallard dekes. if they put thier feet down 100 yards away then i will highball them just to get them to come up and look again, i keep doing this til they get close enough to see the dekes. then i will finish them with a soft qwack or feeding chuckle. Duck calling is part of the duck hunting heritage, and i will always take a whistle & Single reed to the marsh with me.

Man I want to shake your hand. When you know what your doing and it works, who cares what everyone else thinks.

There is a big difference between calling ducks and scaring ducks.

Calling ducks requires skillful use of a manufactured duck call and the ability to use it. Scaring ducks requires me to use a shotgun and loud ammo when they near me over the decoys. I have educated way tooo many ducks this season.

Some folks call ducks, others blow a duck call. Unfortunately most folks we hear in the marsh are the latter.
Look on the bright side; if they knew how to call, they would kill more ducks which means there would be less for you and I....i say let ehm keep scarring them over to my spred where i can sweet talk them right in. :booty:

yeah baby that's what i'm talkin about:icon_thumr. had a moron high balling some widgeon yesterday am. they flared, pushed right to me. gave a tweet tweet on the whistle and gear down. two drakes and a hen on the water. sent the dog, heard a different peep. called back the same and a drake pin (no sprig :binkybaby) almost wacked the dog in the head when he hit the water. after that i gave a loud "THANK YOU, KEEP HIGH BALLING" to the fellow hunter. didn't hear him call for the rest of the am.

No, Going Sat. Maybe Going To The Lake Heard The Rings Are Back:). Do You Know Who The Guys Are That Run Those Big Alum. Brown Boats W/green Rudders. One Car Motor One Aircraft. There Lit Up Like Christmas Trees. And Older Fellow Drives The One W/car Motor. If You Do, They Need To Learn Some Etiquette. Every Weekend They Show Up After Legal, Don't Care If They Run Through You Spread. Park Their Boats In The Wide Open, Then As Soon As Some One Shoots, The Old Man Cranks Up And Rides To Find Where The Shots Came From. If He Can't Find Them He Moves Every 10 Min. Or So And Tries To Rally. I Told Fwc About It Two Weeks Ago But Unless They See Him Do It, There Is Nothing They Can Do. Told Fwc To Sit W/us And They Catch Em... Some One Needs To Talk W/these Guys. They Have ****ed Off Everyone...

Yes I know who the car motor boat is. I will make another call to the duck hunting officer we know. I want to see this guy quit that shiat! He ran through my spread twice this year and many times before in years past. Maybe we should set up on his clients one morning when he drops them off. I mean park right next to them and talk about the lake and all. Call me, I am still up.
