The series of long and tedious meetings has produced a mixed result. Two engineering models were favored, one best for the lake but with a slight bit more of release to the estuaries, one better for the estuaries, will be worked on by staff for presentation to the WRAC. (these models are about 10 pages of graphs and charts) UW-F would support either of the two as they are bias toward a lower lake level average, an occasional 12 foot level during each normal year, and a lower lake in the spring good for nesting waterfowl. The flexibility granted by the CORPS this past year will be continued under the proposal....this is very important and will reduce the dumping into estuaries just by allowing the managers to use common sense and not store water upto 17 feet levels just because some chart tells them to.
Lake should be managed better for ducks and fish if this goes through and the tendency is in the right direction. There were thirty plus at the table......many interest groups, but the old "keep all the water we can" agriculture people are quite.
