I've got a Coleman Crawdad that I would like to paint. It is made of some type of plastic, polyethelene I think. Question is, would a good roughin' up with sandpaper and then a cleanin' be enough to get cheap ol spray paint to stick well? I'm sure touch ups will be common place, but thats OK. I just wanna cut down on the sheen.

Are you asking for advise? Sounds like you already got it all planned out.

For whats its worth, I have not found anything to stick to "plastic" roughed or not, for an extended period of time.

Fusion spray by Krylon is pretty good but still scratches off under the fingernail test.

As a suggestion I would advise to get an outdoor water based primer, like Kilz II, have it tinted and brush away.

A quart will do you, its cheap and touch ups are a breeze.

Whacker, I know they make a rustoleum "for plastic" I've used it and it seems to hold up well. BTW, feel like burlapping some dekes:la:

Why don't we come up with a cover with burlap and raffia to drape over it or snap onto it,etc?

Polyethylene is tough....XIM makes a 'VINYL AND PLASTIC PRIMER" that would help....some Benjamin Moore Paint stores carry it. I used a couple of spray cans (clear) on some platic boat seats and on my Old Town kayak and the camo paint I applied next sticks pretty good.....Still will need touch up as abrasion resistance is poor.

Well I hit it with some olive drab and dead marsh tan Krylon paint. Just a weedy pattern to break up the solid green. Aint gonna win no contest but it should blend in better now.
