This is a very contingeous meeting....with anti hunting groups and NIMBY land owners fighting every step of the way to prevent or reduce hunting opportunities from Rt. 60 to Gardner Cobb and the Lake Cypress areas.
Unfortunately, some of the 6 pro hunting votes we have keep voting with the Sierra Club on FWC hunting proposals that do not meet their exact desires.
Thus we ended up with 8 or 9 votes negative for each of the four hunting program choices offered by the FWC and 3 or 4 on the positive side. This makes the votes look like the group does not want even the current hunting programs continued....if looked at from the outside...Fortunately the Facilitators wrangled the direction of the meeting and brought at least serious discussion of what was acceptable to most of the pro hunting groups. The FWC and District staff helped with this as well.
I am "SUNSHINED" in this meeting and therefore cannot discuss strategy....but our side needs to learn the anti's will always vote against any hunting and when we join them because we do not like all the exact details of a hunting scheme we play into their hands....the old divide and conquer move. We need to vote in every hunting scheme suggested...THEN... work on admendments to get the items we want added.
GEEZZZZZ!
Thanks to the FWC staff and District staff the end result remains at least equal to what is now allowed and some good chances to add hunting on a lot of the area around Lake Kiss....but restricted to shotguns and even game allowed.
Two more meetings...Sept. and Oct. or Nov. and the recommendations will have to be in. I hope we do better as a group...but hard to do when you are Sunshined.
