The SFWMD special WATER SUMMIT will be held July 30 at the SFWMD Headquaters at 9 am. The SUMMIT will "bring together a wide range of parties to share thoughts......about the challenges of managing the 16 county control system that stretches from the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes to Lake Okechobee and Florida Bay."

The public is invited.
We (UW-F) will be stressing the importance of water being available for the natural areas first. The importance of maintaining water levels conducive to good habitat from Shingle Creek in Orlando to Florida Bay. The need to keep Lake Okeechobee lower (and heathier) and to reduce flow into the estuaries. Also, the processes of the Everglades Restoration project need more consideration for wildlife habitat.
There will be a number of technical presentations by SFWMD staff and others on the mechanics of the system, ecology, climate planning and scenarios at different rainfall periods.
