May 7
9:30-12noon
Silver River St Pk.
Silver River Environmental Learning Center

This meeting UW will have the chance to address topics like the Oklawaha Prairie which was topic at past RAC meetings. UW expressed that hunting should be allowed. UW was allowed to introduced a dated mangt. plan from the FWC.

A mangt. team and RAC members went to property for noise pollution or disturbance check by firing a flare. Form speaking w/ SJR personel, it was their indication that there was no distrubance. This meeting occured in Spring 2003. Since then, UW brought up topic at this past Fall Central RAC meeting. It has been noted that UW did so in meeting's minutes.

Also brought up was UW's acceptance on RAC board. This was also noted in minutes.

As for now, their legal dept. is studying the RAC as an exclusive group and Fla's Sunshine Laws.

Also...............

Some might be interested to know that Canveral Marshes will be an Agenda item, mangt. plan revision.

The FWC, I believe, has taken control of an area that is part of the Canveral Marshes. It is scheduled to be on line this next season.

Lastly, the Oklawaha Prairie will be toured after the meeting.

I received the notice too ...

The minutes of the last meeting mentioned that the state soverign line had been "adjusted" at Lake Jessup.

What does that mean? By the legal definition ... that line is the "mean high water" mark .... that's something that is decided by nature ... not an agency.

Great work as usual.....We need a synoposis of this work posted on a more visible public site....ie SDH....Duke, you have access and it would let people know the efforts UW-F makes for them. All Regional Directors should post on this and the other sites this kind of hard and tedious work they do. "Do not hide your candle"! I was suprised to hear at the recent meeting of all the work individuals are doing across the state not widely distributed or known ....You all deserve recognition and credit. Plus it shows UW-F in action. Obviously, things we are debating within UW-F remain here.

What's the story on this Oklawaha property? I own a hunt camp just off the river and this sure sounds close.

Just got back in town from chasing Cobia around Pensacola Beach. No big "slobs", but a 50# and a couple of 30#s.

Back to the subject at hand.

The soverign line issue concerned a mis posting of a SJRWMD property. It seems that the post were several hundred yds. into the marsh off an old dike. Some hunters were hunting it during Teal season and came bake during regular phase to find the signs and a county cop telling them they were trespassing.

I'm glad the district saw better to change the boundry.

I also brought this up at the Stakeholders meeting w/ the LEO table. A clear understanding of State soverign lands and water as well as county and municiple police depts. approaching legal hunters. I had a personal conversation w/ Col. Julie Morris (head ot FWC's LEO). I related several situations that I have heard about when hunters and county cops crossed paths. Some hunters told me that county cops actually pulled their guns on hunters. This bothered me, greatly! and I suggested that Col. Morris put out a bulletin to local cop shops and to communicate better w/ local LEOs that hunters were afeild during season and WE HAVE A LEGAL RIGHT TO HUNT SOVERIGN LANDS AND WATER.

Now to the Okalawaha.

The property is just N of Moss Bluff. It is an old farm site that is diked up. Approx 2500 acs. mostly moist soil w/ standing water and a larger open body on the N end.

The state pk is just outside of Ocala, near the tourist attraction.

I'll post more detailed directions.

Also, I'm not sure that I'll be able to make the meeting.

Can anyone go?

Rut, you don't know how bad it sucks to hunt a place for 14 years, purchase a piece of property within 300 yards of the entrance gate and then have it snatched out from under you:mad:   It bites big time:(

Any Ocala boys want another duck pond to shoot?

I can't make the meeting, UW needs someone to attend. Knowing the SJRWMD, if UW does not have attendance we might be forgotten.
