A wild fire started yesterday on the east side of CR630 and burned some 800-1000 acres. An estimate of 200 camps were destroyed during this fire. The fire was contained yesterday, but it started again this afternoon with the high winds. ALl of the fire crews are working to keep it on the east side of CR630 and out of the Indian Lakes Estates community.
If you know someone who owns a camp there, you might want to call them. I doubt that entry into the area will be granted for a few days.

What type of habitat is it? Wildfires can be beneficial.

Jimmy,
It is piney flatwoods, palmetto galberry, some oak hammocks with a few small bayheads. It burned cabins and camps of every conceiveable configuration to the ground. I hear that it may have started from a campfire that went unattended.
Yes burning can be beneficial if done properly. But a ripping head fire can get too hot and be just the opposite. Only rain and time will tell how it turns out.

THe weather guesser says it might be 10-14 days before we see any noticeable rain around here. Yikes! I see 1998 coming back at us again.

If you remember it was very dry last spring also. I hope we get some rain earlier than we did last year or it will be another rough year for duck food. I see a repeat of last years problems without a hurricane or two.
