I've received a letter from SJRWMD that the final rules for Ocklawaha is going to the board for approval.

The deadline stated was 12:00 PM Monday, 02/09/04.

Monies to restore the property came from US Dept of Ag & the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).

Key Land/Recreational Uses include:

Nature Study, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, biking, primitive camping, boating & canoeing.

Obviously as MARSH chair I received several harsh phone calls in regards to this letter when waterfowl hunting was not addressed.

I tried to explained to these folks that called that this property is scheduled for Waterfowl Hunting for the 2005/2006 waterfowl season, even though not mentioned in the letter.

To quell any rumors or potential lynchings, I immediately called Sherry Scott (386-329-4855) & Nels Parsons (386-329-4500) of SJRWMD.

I was assued by Nels Parson (Hunt Coordinator) that he has been instructed within the last month to advise a plan for waterfowl hunting for Ocklawaha.

As a fellow "duck hunter" my suggestion is to contact Nels Parsons & offer your insight on the project.

Lets continue our great relationship with SJRWMD & work with them on this project.

Thank you.

just curious jeff, how come they didnt mention hunting at all under the recreational uses? afraid of ****ing someone off or what?? just seems a little suspicious to me.

If you look at the Rec Guide, the info came verbatim right out of there.

Thanks for posting CJ,

I got the same letter.

Keep in mind that there are several properties that are along the Oklawaha Rv. One being the Sunny Hill Restoration area. Others are Oklawaha Prairie, (which UW and DU were present at a meeting concerning this propery) and the Rodman Res.

At the meeting that concerned the Oklawaha Prairie, I had a copy of a waterfowl hunting plan from the FWC written by C. LeShack(cr. 1995). The district considered this plan and they went as far as going to the property and doing some sound test of gun fire reports. They concluded (according to Steve Miller SJRWMD land mangt.) that the gunfire wasn't a disruption and that the hunting plan was to move forward.

As for the Sunny Hill Property, I believe that a 5 yr review is required. This must be the review.

UW will write a letter requesting hunting opportunity.
