View Full Version : Poachers at STA 5 BUSTED ON 12/31/06
The poachers that were reported last week at STA 5 have been BUSTED BIG TIMES!!!!!!!
Charged with:
1. Littering
2. Wanton and Willful Waste
3. Shooting over the limit
The LEO's stopped picking up birds at 88 between 4 guys. They are prosecuting to the fullest extent.
The warden's were in the water on kayaks watching the entire action the whole time. Way to step up FWC!!!!!!!!! Maybe this will set an example and people will play by the rules.
I might be wrong. They might have been on the levee watching the action and then got in kayaks in order to do their jobs. No matter what the case, they busted them!!!!!!!
And also, who's to say the LEO didn't get there after they had been shooting for awhile?

Not sure of the penalty they WILL recieve, but if you want my opinion, it should be like drinking and driving. If you go that far over the limit ,you should lose your license for a year. Hope they throw the book at the ba%$ards. Guys like that give us a bad name.:eusa_naug

Maybe a public caravan to the court house on the date of appearance by a few duck hunters. We could ask the judge to hammer the fools.
The public will find out about this before its over.

Heck, from what I hear of the STA's, by the time the wardens paddled over there, they could have shot 88 birds! :toothy9:
I'm just glad they were there and busted those scumbags!!! :mumum:

My question is, Is this the last chapter of this story or the first? Lots of early shooting going on also.

Our contacts with the FWC and Feds last week on the matter have alerted them to the problem.....and this event will keep them "on the case". I spoke with both FWC and Federal officers this week again on the need for more deterrent actions....blue lites on the levees before shooting time, and some officers with binoculars on the levees moving about during the hunts. I believe we will see some more good work.
Say thanks for busting these criminals to the officers you meet at the check stations.

I am not surprised and in my opinion there were more groups out there going the exact same thing....I cant tell how many people I heard shooting without a plug blasting off 5 rounds like it was nothing and watching ducks fall like crazy yet I was still the first one out.....I dont get it....The one thing I remember the most about my hunter safety course was ethics and there are alot of people that fallow that yet the slight few mofo's that dont give two sh**s are going to ruin it for all of us.....If I had my way with those 4 guys I would find a tall tree and 4 short pieces of rope

I can't wait until these people are convicted as I will be happy to pay the $1000 reward that I pledged last week. I will follow up with LEO to see who or how many people provided them with the information leading to these arrests.
In the meantime, I will try and find out the name and address of the people that have been arrested so that information can be posted on this website, along with the scheduled court date.
Letters from hunters to the prosecutor requesting that these individuals be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law might also be helpful.
Great Job LEO!

we need to petetion the court to have the heaviest fine and sentence handed down on these guys to make a statement that we will not tolerate this behaviour on the stas or anywhere else as a group and individuals this thread is hopefully on the public side also or should be moved there we need the email addreess of the court this is going to so we can bombard them to show how many people find these actions to be a gross violation of game laws and ethics

First off.... Great job FFWC!! This is what law abiding ethical waterfowlers have been waiting for...ACTION!!
Secondly, The arrest information is PUBLIC RECORD so will be obtainable ( how do you think it gets published in the newspaper?) also, many places you can get the booking photos..usually on-line...These should be posted all over the WWW on every hunting site.
Third, Once we find out the particulars of this case as in who will prosecute the case and what judge will hear he case we can either individually and as an organization ask for MAXIMUM sentancing by state guidelines. I'm afraid it will be a pitance of its true value.
Needless to say....if they are a member, their membership should be terminated.
Things like this that ARE true and things "alleged" like the pelican shooting are a real "black eye" to those who truely love our sport....No effort is too great to make sure this crap stops!

We came by the scum bags on our way out to the check station. Davey said "Dad! did you see all those ducks? They must of had a hundred on that boat." :angryfire Two LEO Pickup's were there and it looks like the wheels of justice were beginning to turn.:ORGR:
My only concern is that if this is reported in the papers that they (the reporters) get it right. This action was not untertaken by duck hunters. These are poachers. Duck hunters discovered the crime and insisted on the enforcement action.
Hmmmm... mug shots.... looks like I better get the picture posting thing fixed.

FWC can also & probably did charge them federally.
OK gang, here's what we need to do.
1) Designate one from our ranks to find out the:
a) arresting officers name
b) case report numbers
c) names of the scumbag defendants
2) All that are willing, need to write a later recommending the maximum punishmewnt be leveed against the scumbags. The more letters the better!!!
3) Due to it going to Federal Court, the statement/letters need to inlude:
a) name
b) address
c) telephone numbers
d) & must be NOTORIZED!!!
4) In your letters be:
a) Frank & to the point
b) Recommend but DO NOT demand punishment
c) Be polite & sound professional & not like a redneck
I have testified many times in federal court & it is a far cry different from their state & appelate counterparts.
When it comes to federal judges, there's no grey area & they have no sense of humor, so punishment is normally very swift & sweet.
The letters need to be completed ASAP!!! & forwarded to the LEO or the federal prosecutor.

Well, I was at STA 5 yesterday. While I did not personally witness the carnage administered by the outlaws/poachers, I did hear about it. ;) They were not the only violations that I witnessed ... early shooting, unplugged guns, & hulls/trash left in the area. Sky busting was/is a big problem.
Hopefully, I managed to totally embarrass one of the "sky busters" at the check station. He was bragging about shooting ringers at 70 yards, while shooting 3.5" magnums from a 30" full choke barrel. I told him that he didn't need anything bigger than 2.75" ... you just had to wait on the birds come in closer. Hunting is a game of patience. ;)
As far as my report on yesterday's hunting ... my partner & I limited out. 4 ringers, 1 shoveler, 7 BWT. Everything was taken over the decoys - inside of 25 yards. Back at the check station at 11 am (had to wait for the bozos to leave). There were plenty of birds ... and plenty of yahoos to go with them. These "yahoos" either need to be educated ... or ticketed/arrested.

We were able to present the facts of the case to the SFWMD WRAC at today's meeting and they were well received by the WRAC members, SFWMD staff and Mike Collins, head of the WRAC and a member of the SFWMD Governing Board. The SFWMD manager of all the STAs was there. United Waterfowlers was cited as a good partner with the SFWMD on recreation on the STAs and duck hunting continues to have the support of the staff.
Thanks to all who alerted the authorities to the problem and offered support to the FWC. Thanks to the FWC officers for following up on the info and making the arrests.

Thank you Newton, Board Members, and Regional Directors for your hard work. I am continually amazed at what this organization gets accomplished and how well it is received by the powers that be.
