Dead Ringer

Friday I got the report. Lots of birds at new location B. Few birds at old blind in location A. Will hunt Loc. A Saturday to preserve Loc. B for Sunday hunt. Mike wails on them at A, but the other two in party only down 2. Sunday, ready to head to Loc. B. Wait, why are we headed to the old blind? Set up, wait, wait, wait. Down our first Glades teal of the year, a ringer, and a woodie. Other party drops a ringer. Go home with 4 birds between three guys :( .
Time for a pick me up! Drive to Sonny's, eat good food, check out corn-fed country girls, hit STA5. First ever STA adventure was awesome. So many birds, so much variety. If we were set up on time, we'd have had a quick limit, but the layout trip across the canal was an adventure to say the least. Made adjustments throughout the afternoon and finally got in the right spot. I was very wet, but happy to get some good shots and spot on aim. Only had a few shells, but still got it done by waiting for the perfect shots. Had a BBWD coming in. Was just on the edge of my range, so I passed to Mike who had a better vector. Finally, the DRT team had a BBWD to our name. Ended up with 6, Mike with 3. Not the normal easy limit, but it was awesome to get a BB and also successfully try something new.
After the 3:30am to 8:30pm adventure, I was too exhausted to be ready for Billy's early bird breakfast, so slept in the next morning.
This morning, we were headed to location B, no matter what. Had a blind picked out for wading, but figured out that it would be better for hiding the boat, waders can hide anywhere. Mike dropped My dad and I off and headed over to the blind. Pa and I faced back to back, and I couldn't believe how many birds flew over us from behind me  . Still, we made some great shots, and kept plucking away. In the meantime, Mike calls to say that he's done at 7, and he's gonna take a nap. Got real slow, but we made good on the shots available and rounded out the 3 man, 17 ringer, 1 mottled limit. Not a bad way to end the weekend. :icon_smil
