What a morning! Got the truck stuck putting the boat in... Boy this is going to be a great day. Lots of shooting 20 minutes early then things settle down when legal time gets here. Had someone set up 100+ yards away... thank God they were real duckhunters (they can set up near me anytime)! About 9:15 we decided to move the Winduck out into the hole a little bit. Just got covered up good and a few Gadwalls pour in cupped wings and feet down! Karen put the brakes on this nice drake. If someone has the phone number for Tony up in Hawthorn I would be greatful cause thats where he's going. Merry Christmas Karen.

Wilbur,
You are so lucky to have a hunting partner as you do. Tell Karen congrats on the Gadwall.
I would like to see a Gadwall up close some day. I have never held one, nor shot at one. I saw about twentyfive a TMG last week while scouting.
I hope to harvest one before I become too old to hunt.
Sounds like y'all had a wonderful day together.
Take Care

Thanks David! We did have a pretty good day after all. However about 4:30 this morning, I was really beginning to wonder if we should have stayed in bed!!
A SPECIAL THANK-YOU TO THE TWO MEN THAT TOOK TIME THIS MORNING TO HELP US OUT!!! If yall read this, Please send a pm (private message) to myself or my husband, Wilbur. Thanks AGAIN! We owe you!
This was my first Gadwall... and firsts are always more special. Right away, William starts in on getting it mounted...& I'm saying... let's eat it!! :tongue11: I've had a couple people tell me that they are not that common for this area, and I have given in. Looks like I'm getting a duck mounted for Christmas!
btw David, You are welcome anytime to check it out. We will post pics when it is done. It will probably be a while though.

Nice Gaddy Karen.
We used to see quite a few of them out there in the days when that area was mostly a puddle duck haunt. Gaddys will respond well to a mallard call and will work sown quickly if they are allowed to.

Nice Bird!!!
It funny, back home gaddys n mallards were almost expected to be a part of your bag when we would go out...
although none of my buddies have ever shot a mottled either LOL
Congrats on your first Gadwall... and like I said, nice bird!!

He's a beaut. Congrats. Still looking for my first gray.
Got my first suzie mallard Saturday and I refuse to apologize for it. Only the second mallard I have ever got a shot at. (The other one is on my wall.)

Good for you Karen! :icon_smil Gaddys are not common here. I have only taken two in florida but we have taken them every year we go up to Michigan. What was funny is that when my buddy from Michigam came down here he shot a gaddy and I was all excited and he couldn't understand why....the same way when I went up to Michigan the first time, Joey and I shot a few Blue wing teal. He was all excited and I said " Great, I come 1200 miles to shoot a duck that we kill train car loads of at home!"
