I love these Dade County Meetings I get home by 7:15pm and that is not the only good news. The C111 Spreader Canal Project is still in the final design phase but the Basis Of Design Report calls for a 1421 acre reservoir and a Water Quality Component(otherwise known as an STA) of more or less equal size. Since this project is in its initial planning phase I felt good pitching the recreational access from the very beginning. I was assured by Project Manager Jorge Jaramillo and Rick Smith that once it gets off the ground Jerry Krenz will plan recreational access.
Now for those of you who live in Dade County and remember hunting the area of Frog Pond and Rocky Glades when it was flooded you will be happy to know that this project will be built on the property where Frog Pond sits right now. The SFWMD has already acquired 73% of the land that it needs for Phase 1 and 2. Also important to note this is one of the original projects that was authorized by CERP and it has been identified as an Acceler8 item also. We are looking for a completion date of 2010-2011. In my estimation the entire area south of Chekika National Park will be bought by the District and used for water quality purposes, this is great for us because that area is great for ducks, dove, and even deer and hog. Last but not least I encourage all of you to vote against urban expansion at all times. This project is viable for us because Mayor Carlos Alvarez vetoed the elimination of the Urban Development Boundary in South Dade. Because of this we will not have to jump through the hoops that we had to with STA1W and the reservoir in Wellington.

Thanks for your time Alex. Regarding your statement about voting: It sounds like a regional issue. How can others outside dade help?
