So far I have found this site to be the best $25 I have ever spent. :icon_smil
You guys have been great, got a warm welcome and have already met a couple folks.

Now I need your local knowledge on small engine repair.
Working on my outboard last night and pulled the starter rope right out of the thing (I guess it was time to go - better in the driveway than in the swamp). In any case, after fiddling around with the thing for more than an hour I realized that putting the thing back together exceeds my limited mechanical skills.
Talked with the only Evinrude repair shop I know of in Ft. Lauderdale - Angler's Marine on SR 84 - (gotten some parts from them) and they are booked solid with repair work right now (the guy did not come right out and say what I am sure he felt: "I can't help your dumb a$$ because I'm too busy making an sh!t load of money working on big engines")

So that brings me to my question;

Option 1 - does anyone know any small shops in the Ft. Laud./Miami area that do minor repairs for cheap?
Option 2 - (even better) are any of you guys handy with 1990's 30hp Evinrudes?
Option 3 - should I just set the boat on fire and bum rides the rest of the season?

Any advice would be appreciated. :help:

Here's probably the best advice that you'll ever get concerning outboards ...

Go to a "marine supply" place and pick up a shop manual for your motor(s). It's a lot easier to learn to do it yourself (and cheaper! :D ) ... that way you are limited by someone being "backlogged" with work. It's not that hard to do yourself.

There are two different brands of shop manuals that I reccommend ... Clymer and Seloc ... I'm partial to the Clymer manuals. You can probably find them on the net.

http://www.amazon.com, http://www.repairmanual.com/, http://www.marineengine.com, http://www.boatfix.com/, http://www.shipstore.com/

Those would be good places to start looking ...

Yeah ... but, he'll save a lot of money in the long run by learning how to do the simple stuff. ;)

Option 3 - should I just set the boat on fire and bum rides the rest of the season?

Don't burn the boat just the motor because when it comes to paying to get a motor fixed you'll need this first...:ky: because you always get screwed at the motor shop. :angry9:
