That is interesting about the hits from the military IP's. I think it would be nice if anyone in the military here or oversea's would like our newsletter we should send them one. What do you think?

The UW-F NEWSLETTER costs $3.50 to $4.50 each in paper, ink, printing supplies and postage.......we already send freebies to the outdoor writers, strategic agency personel and others....We give away a few at shows and seminars to prospective members. It is probably the major expense item for UW-F. We can only produce the quality item we do with income derived from the Spring and Fall raffles.......What I am saying is, if we have more success with the raffles a lot is possible...currently we are barely covering costs.

If they are using the site, they can read the newsletter.

I did not realize it was so expensive. Also did not realize it was on the web site.

I know the newsletter is available on the website, however with Mil. IP's checkin us out it may be nice for them to get a bit of mail from the 'back home'. Maybe it could be a little bit of something for them to put up on a wall to remind them of home to make the day a bit easier. I know I would appreciate it!

If the occasion arises where interest is shown I will gladly sponsor the printing & shipping fee for a newletter to any enlisted man or woman on active duty.

I challenge all members of UW-F to do the same. One of the reasons we are able to assemble in this manner is directly attributable to their service.

Its the least we can do; Lets send a few out as token of our appreciation.

I was surprised at how much the newsletter cost. Can we send out the newsletter via e mail? I know some people like to have the newsletter in their hands, kicked back in a recliner like me but if it saves some money for UWF I will print my newsletter of the website or from an email. If we can get a couple hundred members to commit to this just think of the money we would save. Then you could send some newsletters to military personell and v.i.p's in the duck hunting community. If this is possible put me first on the list. This could save UWF a lot of money every newsletter. What do you think?

The Newsletter is a great recruiting tool.....I hope members are passing old copies along to non member friends....As stated above anyone can read the Newsletters on the site...

It takes David and I two to three days to print, another two or three days to staple, fold and seal, all in postal code order, and carry to the Post Office for mailing.

David does the great work of assembling the format. I am constantly putting together pictures and articles for the next edition....already doing photos for Feb. and basic articles. We depend on our RDs for articles and Regional Reports. We welcome any members' contribution. A lot of time is involved in creating enough copy and photos to do 14 pages or so.

We believe the Newsletter expenses are well spent....the Face of UW-F, along with the web site....I know it has very positive influence in the SFWMD and SJRWMD, the FWC and other agencies where we send key staff copies. We also send the outdoor sports writers in FL a copy.

Basically, you can already access the Newsletter electronically....but the hard copy is very important to our image. We have the funds.....and since we really don't raise funds for much more than the running of the Corp. and promotion...we are ok. The sending of free copies does make an impact on our funds if it went above what is done now.....Could we do it with $5 donations for each address per Newsletter?....probably. However, it compounds the labor of the printing and mailing process. I like the idea of refering folks to the web site source in lieu of the mailings.

If a member of our US Armed Forces requests a newsletter then by god send them one. :angry3:
They're out there putting there butt on the line so you can sit here and bicker over the measley $4.50 it cost to print one.

What if we each anonymously mailed our old newsletters to "Any Military Personnel" over there? Word gets circulated, they get something from home, and the newsletters are already paid for. I don't know what address to send to, yet, or how much it may cost individually, but something tangible in their hands, has to be better than nothing. Also, they can continue to circulate once they get them. I'll send mine, gladly. Those are the people who put their butts on the line, so I can sleep easy! Just an idea.

If we get some requests..I'll mail my newsletter....I read it as soon as I get it so it can fly over there right away.

Click on United Waterfowlers-Florida above and go to NEWS.....click on the July NEWSLETTER....there is a feature article on Frank Gant, a leading carver from Florida who has won LA's Best Decorative title among many others. The November issue will be up soon, with James Bennett, who has probably the largest call collection in the US and is President of the Call Makers Assoc., featured....also a Floridian and UW-F member.

email me your address and I will send you a copy of that Newsletter...

Are you a member? Its hard to tell. Do you have a serviceman you would like a newsletter sent to? How about this, get off your a$$ and Volunteer to print and put together the newletter for the "troops".

If enough volunteers step forward to help with this and enough want to donate to the cause there is a link in the Web Store to donate to the hunting fund. But dont start at that $5 gift, move down the line to that $25 gift line.

There are so many jobs done by the staff of UWF and none of these are paid, we are all volunteers.

Throughout UW's history I have volunteered, in fact just recently I have offered to take on position as a RD.
Not to nitpick but **** dont say it costs too much to give a few newletter's out to servicemen over seas when they are offered to anyone else all over the www. Sorry but it just struck a nerve.

In all fairness, I think Newton was thinking of 569 servicemen. That would have been over $1500.00 which we could certainly do but frankly no one has ever asked for one. As was mentioned, they are available on the "NEWS" page. If anyone knows a Florida duck hunting GI on active duty overseas, give me the contact info and I'll get him a copy of the newsletter. If there is a big demand we will seek donations to cover the expense.

Some of our newsletters have already been sent to our troops. We have a new fancy copier here that does a great job of color 2 sided printing and coilating and stapling. We ship directly on Military transport to our troops. I'm guessing we have sent nearly 100 copies but this conversation never happened.
