R.I.P. Hershey!!

I just got a very sad call from Capt. Jeff. His hunting companion Hershey has just passed away. Jeff is pretty shaken up as you can only imagine. Say a prayer for both Jeff and Hersh. It's unbelievable how attached we become to God's creatures.

I just hope they go to the same heaven as we do so we can hunt with them once again!!

I know what it feels like ... I still have very vivid memories of losing my first lab. I still get melancholy thinking about it.

One of these days we'll meet up again. Keep your chin up. :)

jeff, im so sorry. i have seen hershey on several occasions and he was a cool dog. i know you are very proud of him and rightly so. may you remember all the good times.

Sorry to hear that. We lost Sammy last year and it's just like loosing a member of the family. Hang in there.

Leslie & I just wanted to say thank you for all the nice calls,
e-mails, & letters.

We received the lab results tonight & confirmed it was a severe form a lung cancer (Adenocarcinoma).

The doc said this form of cancer even when caught early does not respond to chemo.

Hershey never presented any of the classical sign as in coughing or shortness of breath.

During early teal Hersh pulled a shoulder muscle & may have masked the signs of the cancer (sore chest & shoulder).

Usually once diagnosed they have between (2) two & (3) three months.

Hershey was one of a kind & will be missed cuddling up in bed at my feet on a cool winter's night.

HRCH UH JK Hershey's Kiss of Palm Bay set the bar in the HRC hunt test game for American Water Spaniels in becoming the first to earn all (4) four titles.

1998 Started Hunting Retriever (4) four passes
1999 Hunting Retriever (3) three passes
1999 Upland Hunter (7) seven passes
2003 Hunting Retriever Champion (3) three passes

In all, Hershey accumulated (170) one-hundred seventy points throughout his hunt test career.

But as with all sports, records are made to be broken & that's what Hershey & I would want.

Hershey will be most missed on the boat & in the blind.

While with us, we hunted together in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, & Mississippii.

Hershey got to hunt with us (2) two times during the 2003/2004 waterfowl season & as Aaron has already told you all, his
"Last Retrieve" with us was "executed with perfection."
