This 11,000 acre Reservoir is being built south of the Caloosahatchee River, west of the Ortona Lock. This is in Hendry County, west of LaBelle.

The meeting will be at the SFWMD office in Ft. Myers.

UW-F is seeking to have public boat ramps included in the preliminary designs for all of the CERP reservior projects.

Local members are encouraged to attend the meeting and speak to the need for public access for recreation on this project.

There are always complaints from members (and friends) of the lack of places to go in the SW FL area.....and the long drives to reach good spots.....Here is a chance to get one near home!!!! But you must attend the meeting, get on the "speakers list" and make a statement asking that the initial plans include a "boat ramp and area for parking to be used for recreation" and that "hunting" be listed as a recreation on the property.

The WMD/Corps plans may include a "two year" test before the public is allowed on.....but it is imperative the infrastructure for a boat ramp and parking be setting there from day one!!! It is difficult if not impossible to have them added on later..... a high expense for "new" facilities will be used as an excuse not to do so, and all the "permitting" that would have to be done.

Do not miss this opportunity.

Reminder, the C-43 meeting is tonight.

Don't be bashful, stand up and remind the designers that boat ramps, public access, and managed hunting are all activities in the PIR (Project Implementation Report).

We want to see the boat ramps and access in the preliminary design plans.
