I was forced to use the butt of my Exterma as a crutch to get up out of the water at a STA today. Now I know that NONE of you Extrema owners or for that matter anyone other gun owners have had that happened to you. But, just in case it hypothetically happened to you other than;

1. Removing the stock assembly and rinsing and drying it out.
2. Removing the kick off assembly and rinsing it off and then using compressed air and dying then following up with a light gun oil with rust preventative.
3. Rinsing all other metal parts and then compress air bow off and light oil applied

What would you do before reassembly? Tried the website but really didn't cover it.
YES, I realize I am getting old and with that comes being clumsy and YES I did leave my wading staff back at the blind.............

Rather than oil...I would have gone with WD 40 first.

You may not know this...but...WD 40 was the product of a WWII product development push to find a "water displacing" formula.....On the 40th try....

And now you know how it got it's name.

Anyway, getting the water out is what counts....

WD40 bad, flammable and can cause bad bad things inside kick off stock. New extrema easy to take down and go thru. It's worth the time and effort.

Break it down as far as you feel comfortable, then after you blow it out, put a hair dryer to it (get it hot but watch for plastic parts) afterwards apply light coat of oil.

Beretta gives you the gun oil to use on it and you can use WD40 to get the water our of it but use a gun scrubber on then put the oil back on it that will help it out.

I want to say THANKS for all the help guys. Stripped it all the way down and did the scrub out and then blew off and used some OMC anti-corrosion oil that has silicone and rust inhibitors in it.

Thank goodness it wasn't salt water.....:thumbsup:
