The Southwest Regional Cook-out, will be held on July 15, 2006, at the Clay Gulley Picnic Pavillion in Myakka River State Park, on SR72 in Sarasota County. The Park is open from 0800hrs. till Sunset.
There are numerous activities for for the adults and kids, such as Wildlife Viewing, Bird Watching from the Birdwalk, Canoe and Kayak rentals at the Boat Basin, along with Airboat Tours that go around Upper Myakka Lake. There is fishing from the Myakka River Bridge in the park, and bank fishing in Clay Gulley Creek at the Picnic Area. There is a playground for the kids right next to the Picnic Pavillion and restrooms within 100' of the pavillion.
The Clay Gulley Picnic Pavillion is at the North end of the main Park drive, and by driving slowly through the park, you may see deer, turkeys, wild hogs and other animals.
Being a State Park, NO alcoholic beverages are allowed (sorry), so you may want to bring whatever you want to drink. We will have some soft drinks available.
Directions to Myakka River State Park are as follows:
From I-75, North or South, take Exit # 205 (SR#72), and go East for approximately 12-15 miles. Myakka River State Park will be on your left.
From US#17 or US#27 North or South, turn west on SR#70, and go just west of Arcadia. Approx. 1 mile after you cross the Peace River Bridge, you will turn West on SR#72. Stay on SR#72 and keep going West until you come to the Myakka River State Park, on your right.
I will need to know, no later than July 8, 2006, if you are planning to attend and how many there will be. We are asking each family to bring a covered dish, of either Potota Salad, Macaroni Salad, Baked Beans, Potato Chips, etc; We will furnish the Hot Dogs, Hamburgers and Buns..
