Of all people to be called away, the instigator and person who should get credit for a great idea, DUCK BONE, was not able to attend! But he was there to survey the site earlier and with the second person who deserves a lot of praise for making sure the event happened, Jimmy De Cubas. A special thanks from all of UW-F!

Despite the low water conditions which eliminated a chance for a true Poker Run, about a dozen boats with captains and crews ran up and down the river from the Lone Cabbage ramp. There was a lot of opportunity to bend push poles. Finding Lake Poinsett almost a mud flat was a shock to many who had run in the area before.....there is a real drought in North and Central Florida!

There will be an article with photos in the July NEWSLETTER.

Some serious thoughts...we learned a lot with this initial event. The lack of water actually was not a seminal situation as next time the river may be in flood, but perhaps holding the UW-F SUMMER MUD FEST AND PICNIC after the rains start and in June may be best when in the North. (in the south the WCAs are always wet enough). Everyone seemed to like the ideal of holding the MUD FEST north and south on alternate years........opposite the WINTER HUNT AND BOARD MEETING. This will give all members a nearby event to attend every year.

Note, the suggested full name: UW-F SUMMER MUD FEST AND PICNIC.
I believe this could be a family affair with more than just those with MUD MOTORS....gives The Guy a chance to show The Lady the motor and rig "I really need". And, of course, makes the event attractive to all members.

This year's location was great, with a restuarant and a County Park, airboat and regular boat ramps, and a lot of marsh (normally). Fishing ponds for the kids, etc. I am sure other similar places exist in northern FL. that could attract the boaters and all members. HOLIDAY PARK, just west of Ft. Lauderdale, or a place on the Lake would be good for the south event. Poker Runs are successfully run at these locations regularly.

I suggest there be a committee each year responsible for the planning and execution of that year's event....North: Central and North Regional Directors, South: South and Southwest Regional Directors plus any member who could be coerced!!! into helping out. (This would be an every other year duty)

I might add, UW-F does very little "fund raising", but even this small event added $240 to the treasury.....enought to pay for the cost of mailing the next two NEWSLETTERS. We are not looking for any type of massive "twist your arm" fund raising, and I feel this event fits our "mission" well.

NOW ITS YOUR TURN! PLEASE POST UP SOME IDEAS AND THOUGHTS!

well i want to thank everyone who came and many who offered to tow me off the shallows when i found out my g3 50 cant run in 12 inches or less of water unless capt george is pointing which way to go also thanks to Barret for taking Matt with him it was all he talked about when we got stuck on the way in. Also a word of warning for anyone following Keith Yates into the St Johns his boat doesnt need as much water as mine either sudden stop. But Sheryl loved going down the river and seeing all the alligators.

OK, I will take my medicine.

I wanted to come, but had to settle for an hour on my own here in Jax.

Lots of reasons why I could not attend, but glad we got something started here in Florida.

Just pushing your buttons Steve....

I think in the future we should call this mudboat run, there is no mud in Florida.

Well, if you guys want to come up here there is plenty of mud.

I ran my boat, after working on the motor, in several creeks off the St. Johns in the Jax area and was throwing mud everywhere.

I may just try to have one up here.

The creeks were Pottsburg and Little Pottsburg and the Arlington River.

I think I went to an area of Little Pottsburg that has not seen a boat in decades.

I will be checking out Millers Creek in the new few weeks.

Man that blue shirt sure blends in with the water well. I might have to wear that the next time I go wading.
The mudfest was fun. We definitely tested the limits of the boat, running in under 6 inches of water on the E side of the lake on the way back. Ran to Winder and back and was glad to meet some new friends along the way. Hope that next year there is more water wherever we go to make it a true poker run. I think it would've been more enjoyable with the whole pack running together, but it was still a blast!

Yeah, they brought beer

yeah rub it in heck maybe santa will take care of me again oh well the redfish dont seem to mind but i still cant run as shallow as you guys appreciate the offer of the tow. Sheryl said to cast our rods out and pretend we where fishing and maybe nobody would notice. i didnt think i'd get that by y'all.
