Does anyone have an idea on how much steelflex I need to buy for A 14X36 john boat? Also is there a place in Central Florida that stocks this or do I need to order it from Fasco in Miami.

It is expensive material, but five years ago we bought 1 gallon ($100 approx.) and did three 1648 hull bottoms, one coat. They are still almost like new. Call Fasco, don't know the quantities, but based on this application, a half-gallon, if available, would be plenty. I will qualify that by saying we only did the hull bottoms and only 1/4 way up the bow underside. Prepping is the key. On my friends' rivetted hulls, it actually helped seal some rivet points. As long as you are not running up on gravel or rocks or otherwise unnecessarily abusing your boat, one good coat should suffice.

You have to order direct from Fasco. 1 gal will be enough - you'll have enough left over to do a canoe if you have one.

I think Sid is using something else - a similar product called Quick-Slick

Don you are right it is called quick slick it is a little harder polymer than steelflex. You apply it the same way and I found out the other day he can tint it green as well. It is repairable as well if you chip it. I have some in stock if your interested. I sell it for $100 a gallon and you should have enough to put a good thick coat on the bottom of your boat.

Hey Sid, I wore the paint off the bottom of my boat already, so I'll need some "quick". When I leave GA. at the end of November, I'll give you a call.
Thanks, Hootie

Hootie I'm trying to get some down to the WPB area too. Might have a guy going up this weekend if you want some sooner.

I just applied the Steelflex 9x-2000 (super slick) with green tint to my 14x38 Jon. Bought it last year for $99 direct from Fasco in Hialeah (since my job was taking me there everydayit was an easy p/u) but just got around to applying it. I spread mne on thick due to some broken rivets and leaky areas, but I used 3/4 of a gallon. Wish I had Raul do mine...I may have had some extra for you to have!! It is slick as snot tho!!

Be sure to keep the bow winch hooked up until you get it into the water. If not, it may end up on the ramp.... :blob1:

Hey man, I remember after curing for three days on the sawhorses and then we flipped the hull onto the grass. I barely touched the gunwale and that 400# bateau swung around on the grass like it was on a oil slick. It was a heck of a good investment!

Mine too...I had it flipped over on the trailer. Cured for almost 3 days... like 60 hours...I got impatient:tongue3:
But man...ran the marsh yesterday and felt a HUGE difference. Hitting the Hiacynth patches...and ran right over like it was nothing. Man...I should have fixed our steelflex 8 years ago.
