I am getting a 16' jon boat for flats fishing and duck hunting. Does anyone have a recommendation on which mud motor is best, also for that size boat what horsepower? They all seem to be priced about the same, also does anyone know of any local dealers in Florida?

:D :D I would recommend a minimum of a 20hp honda godevil, but the more power the better.:D :D check out www.godevilfla.com and www.godevil.com I have a godevil myself 3 yrs no problems my buddy has one from the early 80's. hope this helps.

i would say the 23hp vanguard (briggs & stratton) would fit your needs perfect. i have it on a 15' jon and it will run about 20mph with just me and 17mph with me, blind, dekes, buddy, etc... not sure where bryceville is. i am here in jax and my local gun shop/hunting store just started carrying mudbuddys. if you want the name and number let me know. stone dead sells beavertails and you can order godevils straight from them. do your research and pick the one youre most comfortable with. all 3 brands are good products. i would definitely call stone dead and talk with him though. its always nice to have a local guy if you have problems, not to mention he supports the ducks locally.

I have a 25 Kohler mud buddy on a 15-42,
No problems, runs great, More power the
better. I have been in some stickey stuff
and the motor has pushed me through.
Good luck

Mahimahi,
Sounds like you fought the floating matts out at Orange lake.

I was poling my way over those mats and then comes this guy with a mud motor and he never slowed down. What took me 15 minutes to pole across he ran across in a matter of seconds. I will be ready before next season for sure.

mahimahi-
i would suggest a 27 kawi from mudbuddy. they are great motors(quiet, easy starting and smooth running) the would push your 16 footer great with 2 or 3 people
I'd go with the Mud Buddy as well. I think they are less maintenance than the Go Devil. (I know I'm opening up a can of worms saying that) I've just heard that you have to grease the Go Dev's pretty often and they throw a lot of grease.
