This project builds large impoundments on the land along the Hillsborough Canal east of the ARM Lox. Federal Refuge. It will be attractive to ducks. The problem may be that housing development is so close there will be opposition from the locals for hunting on these new marshes.

I believe we should go for hunting on all the impoundments with a buffer zone on the eastern edge of the project to reduce conflicts with the neighbors. Boat ramps may or may not be in the plans.....but some public access is usually afforded.

Residents from Ft. Lauderdale north to Lakeworth....This would be a good meeting to attend if you are interested in supporting duck hunting near where you live.

I know this area very well.....And I can tell you it is going to be a fight to get hunting on this piece of property....I do have a few question and do intend on attending this meeting.....One is when the construction will begin and will it be run as an STA type deal or open to everyone.....This is a small size piece of property

I was fishing at LOX today.....some bass for fun and a mess of Mayans with the fly rod which I kept for lunch tomorrow....and I measured the distance from the LOX levee and gate to the first houses......right at 3 miles. We should go for hunting any impoundments up to two miles east of the levee.....this would leave a one mile buffer.

I posted it some where else??? The meeting was poorly attended. Jerry Krenz was there and assured that boat ramps were in the plans, initially for District use during construction and testing, but able for quick conversion to public use. The roads and bridge to the ramp area are public use standard. There were some anti hunting comments, but support from District staff for our postion....especially when it was pointed out that duck hunting on the LOX Refuge was already closer to the near by housing developments than this Site 1 location.

There will be additional meetings in July. I believe the local residents (Boca West) will have woke up by then and there could be more resistance.

The first impoundment will go east from the current LOX Refuge levee about 1 3/4 miles and will be about 3/4 miles wide north to south. Filled depth will be 8 feet. The Site 2 impoundment will be built later east of this one right up to the current housing developement.
