Ignore the title of this post, it was a screw up based on an email I got from the NRA-ILA that they goofed on.

On Wednesday, March 8, 2006, the Senate Criminal Justice Committee will hold another hearing on SB-206, by Senator Durell Peaden (R-2). SB-206 protects your right to have a gun in your vehicle (car, truck, minivan, sports utility vehicle, motorcycle, motor home, RV, etc.) for lawful purposes. Some Florida businesses, led by the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Retail Federation, are trying to ban guns in cars. They are violating the constitutional rights of gun owners and Florida law. They want to ban guns by denying your right to have a firearm in your private vehicle when you park in a parking lot that accommodates the public and company employees. They have no constitutional or legal right to search your vehicle or tell you what legal personal private property you can have inside your private vehicle in their parking lot or anywhere else. Please immediately send email to members of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and URGE THEM TO SUPPORT SB-206, by Senator Peaden. IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR E-MAIL PUT: SUPPORT SB-206 - Protect Possession of Firearms in Vehicles/Parking Lots. FOLLOWING ARE THE SENATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND SENATE LEADERS WHO NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU:

Please note....you do not want to oppose or "stop" this bill......this legislation will PROTECT your right to have a gun in your vehicle at work. You want to encourage your State Senator to vote for the bill......ie the UW-F YAHOO Group email several days ago.

Newton, I see where the screw up came from. Sorry 'bout that. Geez.

Newton is right people, we need to support it. The NRA-ILA goofed up when they sent out the email.

OK ... Here's what I sent ...

Gentlemen:

I truly believe that this situation is one in which businesses are being allowed to deny us (citizens of the US) our unalienable Constitutional Rights. The 2nd Amendment wasn't added to the US Constitution as a law that "could be obeyed at our discretion". It was added as an absolute right of the US citizens.

My company, Tyco International, Ltd., is one of the companies that forbid firearms on "Company" property. I work an afternoon shift (3pm - 11pm). Consequently, I have to travel back home late at night ... and sometimes have to run errands after work. I do not think that it is either "right" or "ethical" for an employer to forbid me from carrying a firearm for self-defense.

IF I carry a firearm onto company property, I am certainly breaking company policy and will be immediately terminated.

That leaves me with a choice ... either carry a firearm in my vehicle & take a chance on getting terminated ... OR leave the firearm at home and take the chance of being mugged/carjacked or just a victim of violent crime. Neither is a good choice for my family.

Please make the right choice and support HB-129.

Thank You.
