browning a5?

Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone had an A5 in the rack and wanting to give it up? Not looking for never shot or anything just a good ole gun.

My grandpa shot one and that thing could get some ducks! Been needing a new gun for this season so why not an old favorite

One good thing if you get a light 12 ( 2 3/4 inch) is that many manufacturers are now making steel loads in the smaller sizes such as #6 shot now... many states are transitioning to steel for upland hunting so the shell selection is pretty good right now.

Love my A5. If you get one DO NOT get a belgian version if you are going to hunt ducks with it, unless you want to be paying $3 a shell; they cannot handle steel with the soft Belgian steel -- keep an eye out for an invector choked Japanese model.

Good luck with the hunt. I have two A5's a light 12 invector and a '63 Sweet 16 and I love em both....

With the fast loads of today you do not need a 3" shell to kill ducks anyway. I do wonder though if the fast shells might be a bit hard on the light 12 action. They have alot more pop and pressure then they used to and alot more than light 12 loads.

the nice thing about some of the fast and hot loads is that they cycle well when the gun is set on the "heavy" setting... and I agree, a lot of shooting really doesn't require even a 3" shell.

Only issue is that some of those original (real) a5's can;t handle the beating steel gives a barrell. Be careful. Shoting steel form an older gun will cause bad issuews for the gun, but worse, YOU!

Always wanted an a5 but now cant decide if thats really what I want after reading all yalls comments.

Right now im shooting a semi auto 16 gauge. Its a great gun but it has a turn chock and its now slipping and its hard to find steel loads for a 16 gauge

Just my .02 but winchester and remongton have some of the smoothest cycling autoi 20's out there. Just a thought.

I have used one a couple times, great nostalgic gun but not something I would want to tote everyday. This gun happens to be one of those full choke 32" barrel magnums. Not a light gun.

I'm not worried about the weigh as long as it swings good and cycles nice. My vision shoots a Winchester and I'd reither have a remington if I had to choose between the two actually

I shot an A5 for years. Loved that gun.

One thing to note, they are heavy and swing slow. The action, while very reliable, is slow. Cyling heavier loads, you will notice the action cycling.

If you are looking for a piece of waterfowling history, they are great to have. Wish I hadn't sold mine....

They feel very strange when you fire them with the barrel recoil action. Slow and movey is best I can describe it. Kinda like a slow motion car wreck with about the same sound. They take a little getting used to but are a fine shooting gun once you do.

I know of an A-5 for sale on another forum---its a 3" mag,which shoots 2 3/4 or 3" shells--I have one and love it--you can get another barrel for it and shoot steel and lead---they are a true classic,workhorse shotgun---you wont be sorry you got one Paul send me your phone number and e mail and i will forward it to him
