This one slipped under the radar screen...The Palm Beach County Commission has voted for new rules for the "humane treatment" of dogs. There will be only one more vote to confirm the rules (the next Commission meeting....be sure to find out when if you plan to make a comment).

The "blue haired" ladies with lap dogs seem to have won the support of the Commission as the rules have some elements that can cause potential problems for those people who have hounds or other hunting dogs.

One is that every "first" dog must have 100 square feet minimum for a kennel...and every additional dog another 50 square feet. That means if you have four dogs you have to have at least a 10/25 foot kennel where ever they are kept. Also, tethering of dogs without on hand supervision is banned....ie, no tying off dogs in yards (or at hunting camps???) in Palm Beach County.

Another really bizzare rule seems to make you bring your dog into airconditioning if the temperature exceeds 85 degrees....Try that at any hunting camp! much less at home.

Obviously we have all seen mistreatment of dogs by bad owners and do not mind regulations against cruelty....but some of this is outside the natural biological characteristics of an animal that lived in nature(hot or cold, wet or dry) comfortably for eons....

Geeze!
