My BPS canvas waders gave up after 4 seasons. Thinking of neoprene new ones. Any opinions, 3mm 5mm ,likes dislikes. Are they too hot in mild weather, really warm in cold weather?

I also have a pair of BPS waders that I've used for 2 years and am happy with them. I also own a pair of Rocky waders for real cold weather. I think you'll roast your tail off in neoprene. I've got neo gloves and it better be darn cold or them things get hot quick.

I have a pair of Cabelas 5 MM neos .... I like them but if it is warm...You'll roast. It's like a sauna in there if it is over 60 degrees or so....the up side is I get cold easy and they keep you warm in florida.:)

As an afterthought..have you considered the breathables..I think Larry Alloway has a pair of them. They are a little pricey but not outrageous. They may be just the ticket here in fla where we only get a handful of reallly cold days. :)

I'm wader challenged also.

My breathables are stocking foot and were very cold during late season. The boots are a tight fit and don't handle wool socks too well. They have worn out so I'll replace them with larger boots or get new waders.

Boot foot would be a better option.

I wore hip boots most of the year, La Crosse Big Chief. They are more comfortable, insulated boots, and I drink too much coffee. Several times partners with chest waders handled some deep water retrieves for me.

Maybe those waders with a fly would be best for an old f**t like me? :)

I hunt mostly lake Seminole in extreme north fla, and it can get down right cold. Have had ice on the dekes before. We hunt in the water and I almost always get cold in my canvas waders. Would a 3 or 3.5 mm neoprene be a good happy medium. most days are 40s and 50s during regular season. Thanks for the input.:D

I bought some REdhead ones last year, I talked to a few people first and they said the same thing, you'll be very hot in neoprene, I wanted neoprene mainly so they will fit nice, but I ended up with canvas ones, I just don't like them because they tend to chaff my big ole thighs.

Hit'n... If it is 40 or 50 degrees I would be happy in my 5MM's

Bac... baby powder my man!...and it will make you smell nice too!

A point to ponder...stocking foot neo's will float you(if you kick your boots off) Regular waders will drown yo'azz quick if you ever get in a bad scrape!

Yeah, I never thought of that. I learned that trick in the Army, just never occured to me to use them with waders. I hope the ducks don't smell it.:D

Thanks for the input. I just got in my new cabelas 3mm neos, they look great and fit good. I think I will be warm for a change.

Hit-n-Miss just be extra careful with the neo's if you hunt around sticks and brush they are thin so they tear if your not careful; shouldn't be a problem though.

:D Thanks that's good to know, I've never had a pair before. How do they stand up to sawgrass?

Go buy some aqua seal from a scuba shop or do a search for it online.

It is all you will need for neo repairs.

I have had a pair for around 5 years and only tore them once and I was in VERY heavy bushes.

They are fine in sawgrass and I have even been through some thickets and they come out fine.
