alright guys I need some help. duh :) anyhow, I have to do a paper for school on some sort of water issue. The professor prefers that it be a water issue here in FL but has not specifically limited it to FL. It has to be 3-4 pages long. An idea was given to me on doing a paper on how effective the various gov't agencies have been at protecting our waters and waterways. I wouldn't begin to know where to look for finding info about that topic. Any help on where I could find info or any other topic ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

You might consider aquatic vegetation control in Florida. You can find a bunch of info here in the forums and in the newsletters. You could also search for Bureau of Invasive Plant management, Florida DEP for a lot of info. That subject has a direct impact on the food sources for wintering waterfowl. Nothing like doing a paper on something that actually has some benefit to your hobby.

If you decide to go that route, send us a copy and we'll try and get some excerpts into the newsletter.

Here is a topic and it involves several state and Federal agencies and how they are working together to restore some forested wetlands that were damaged by a USACE engineering error. Follow the link. I attended this meeting recently.

BEG - in your area, you might be more familiar with the SJRMD. Keith gave you a good link. There is a ton of information on their website, including mission and goals that would lend themselves well to be quoted in a paper. Good luck.

I just read where some high school science teacher developed some kind of treatment to eradicate red tide. It was in the Standing Watch paper.

Here is some info.

do a google search on "teacher red tide" to get more.

Funny thing is there is support for it from the SMC. Hmmmm.....

good luck no ideas except that those mentioned are important to us as duck hunters and maybe fun to do because you would be more interested in them then the fake manatee situation that now causes you to almost drive in the intercoastal as a slow motor zone forever now days
